Not really. I mean we (mostly correctly) grill the decision to bet big on Clifton because hey, he's never really handled those tough minutes. But Carlo didn't either. He was exceptionally good defensively, he was also 6th in 5v5 toi per game among Bruins d-men.

Granted, clifton, grzelcyk and carlo weren't separated by all that much in terms of TOI, but I just find it funny that he's the one who can totally handle it.

I'd argue he looks smart in the instance of holding Mittelstadt and definitely Thompson.

He also looks dumb holding UPL, but one could argue he never really had value beyond his wjc win.

Depends on how he is performing when it comes to that point and what position the team was in.

Alex Pietrangelo’s contract is sure to screw Vegas relatively soon but they got their cup so it’s all irrelevant now.

I had faith in thompson, i had faith in mitts until 2 months before he broke out, but i have no faith in upl and am fully prepared to eat the entire crow cake. i'll eat it with a (frank)ing smile on my face.

Yea neither am I, mostly just pointing out that the chief concern with clifton, usage/system, should apply to carlo as well.


If they made the deal right now i think its fair cause both sides assume some risk. If casey has a full year like his second half last year and carlo is still play 15 mins at 5v5 Id be skeptical.

Clifton did some nice things but for sure his rotation should be below the 1st pair at all times.

I think you are going to see constant shuffling in both the top 9 forward group and top 4 d-corps.

It’s up to Donnie to push the right buttons at the right time.

Could Adams have dealt him a better hand ? Absolutely.

There have also been coaches that have done more with less.

Quintessential replacement level defender. Idk how much better clifton is, but i guess the real value is the presence of both pushes lyubushkin out of the lineup for good. Thats worth ~2 wins already.
