Good little read from Drance about the Suter signing and the cap (it's gonna be OK Ruby)

Math is not easy to follow as some would attest. Hard to say if anyone can believe these cap gymnastics are real….😉

Samuelsson is right, if he can learn to create time and space for himself with his off puck movements that he will score a lot of goals in the NHL.

I had seen that earlier, didn't give it much thought. They also drafted ASP this year. There does not seem to be a lot of consistency in Detroit's offseason. We all know how trying to buy a competitive teams turns out.

See it time and time again from many GM's. Collect some good young prospects, attempt to surround them with veterans and sometimes with and sometimes without success.

With Suter and Blueger signing, almost feel Van has gone down the Beagle, Roussel route again. Although much less expensive this time.

I'm for competition in training camp but also forcing growth out of the younger players.

I like the Pius signing Blueger I am indifferent.
I think even Cole is fine, if we are out of the running at TDL he can be traded. I really don't mind what they did this year. I don't think they are a playoff team but the hockey will be better.

A lot of contracts come off the books this year and I would like to see them make a huge swing at Nylander next year.

Only if it’s large money for short term. I’d rather see a bigger handcuff with a shorter chain than the other way around.

I really get that thinking process.

I think now the NHL has to start opening up the cap books. They are making billions now so the cap has to eventually go close to 100 mil or even more. Star players deserve big money but the buy out penalty should be reduced so that when a player declines the owners take the hit and not the fans.

Beagle and Roussel were problematic money and term. For just 2 years, Suter and Blueger can't cause the same cap issue. And if $1.15m of their contract can be buried off the cap in the minors, they aren't even functional cap liabilities. It's definitely more favourable this time around.

Aside from age, price and term, I totally see your point.

Shorter term and way less money. It's a much lower risk and easier contracts to move.

Beagle and Roussel were eating 7.5% of the teams cap space the year they were signed, and for a combined 6 years.

Blueger and Suter are eating 4.2% this year, signed a combined 3 years. Not even comparable.

I am being overly sarcastic, but I have read here by many that Yzerman is a great GM and Canucks….well lottery talent group, I just laugh.

Hope no one takes this sarcasm to heart.
