Saying that it goes only 1 of 2 ways. He resigns & the build for contention continues. If Petey has serious doubts then & only then would he be shopped for a haul. There is no middle ground imo.
As for wrong then that presumes a rebuild or major retool would ensue. Don’t see that a reality with FA & JR on the scene unless forced.
So here we are watching & hoping this gets on the tracks & continues on an upward growth that goes for many years. We’ll need a big boost from current prospects & future drafts to be cheap & impactful. That is plenty to want & more difficult to see happening. - Nighthawk
Did Wpg win the PLD trade? Are they worse or better? I think both teams won on that.

Winnipeg is a different can of worms attracting & keeping players. We have some work to do there.
Also won nothing while at it. No further ahead or behind us. They are aging out fast & struggling to move out big name players that could be lost for nothing or less on the dollar. Chevy does a good job in that market but destined to be chasing with that small market & rough winters not many players want. They will struggle without top 6 C’s unless a McGroarty shines.
I really like what is going on in CBJ with their prospects etc. Still plenty yet to go but bullish on them.

Attracting players has not been a piece of cake for Vancouver either. Keeping them is not a problem sign a big contract and enjoy Country Club living.
I remember a few players choosing Edmonton over Vancouver, Kuz is a different result from the past. Sort of a slap in the face that players choose that sh1thole over
Vancouver. It's not like Gretz goes and tucks them in every night.

Recent years hasn’t made Van a destination agreed. We also haven’t chased the big ticket UFA’s nor overpaid like the JB era folly. Our problem was exercising patience but with FA the owner that was never gonna happen. Of late that has changed & has to continue. Players like 2 things money & winning. We blew it with LE & caused a lot of losing or at least prolonged it til this day with OEL.
The country club cliche due to no draft picks from MG & JB trading them all away. Nothing in the system. Once the D went downhill the bare cupboard exposed for what it is. EMPTY
Only draw in Edmonton is McJesus or another wasteland nobody goes to. Even then they don’t sign their on the cheap. RNH did them a huge favour. Draisaitl will be getting a huge raise & Bouchard in 2 years.
I don't believe any NHL team has won a cup with a 10 mil plus player on the roster. Hawks won in 2015 and Toews and Kane 10 mil started the year later. They were a lot closer to winning a cup than Canucks are currently.
Sundin also had 32 goals the year prior to signing here. - VANTEL
Things change, players will continue to make more. 10 mil will be a slightly above moderate contract in 5 years. Petey is a top 10 forward, deserves top 10 money.

I am not questioning the skills of Petey and/or what he deserves.
My argument would be more like if a person lived in a low rental housing Vancouver East Side and bought a Tesla. There is so much more you can do with that money.
All hype over nothing. Any fool can connect dots as to create a picture. Media lives off of bs if ppl eat it up. Trolling only becomes easier & easier if fans look for hysteria mongering speculations. Media never holds itself accountable. Credibility is rare.
Don't get me wrong I like some of the stuff that has gone down this year, but still feel we are miles away from being a top contender.
I personally would not pay Petey a penny over 10 mil and I would not do a sixth year. That said you would make a series of moves to either improve more or go after the top draft pick. - VANTEL
Crazy talk. Canucks finally got a young superstar to build a team around and you’re worried about $? Pay the man, or take a step backwards, #1 centers don’t get gifted to you very often.
If Aquaman can’t afford it, Nighthawk will chip in.

On Van being a destination we still have to offer 2 years to some bottom 6 players who’d get 1 year from most teams. Lazar & Suter. We did get a 4th back for Lazar & likely the same if Suter were moved. A trend we didn’t do well at before. A good sign.

Losing Petey sets the team build back for years. It doesn’t guarantee getting top end talent in draft or trade.
Canucks seem prepared to pay him big. By all accounts/reports he’s not thinking contract now. He wants to prove it more.

Also another factor I’ve heard is the Karen Identity of the city. Guys just want to play hockey in most cases and the fanbase is full of SJWs so if a player coughs the wrong way in the city, he’s cast into the spotlight and crucified.
Canadian teams are at a huge disadvantage too. The tax rises of recent years have made Canadian undesirable. I’ve seen podcasts where players say the reason why 10 team no-trades are so popular is because players don’t want to play in Canada or California due to tax reasons. Makes sense to me.
