I know he will get paid and I think it is very wrong. Like I said he is a hell of a good player but we are not a cup team and you would be investing a ton to a team that still has too many things wrong with it. - VANTEL
100 point players like Petey and Miller will get more common as the league gets softer and softer. I highly doubt Petey and his agent are looking at our 'cup status' when looking at his new contract. Miller got paid and so will Petey it's something we need to accept. Petey is smart to wait if he has another 100 point year yipes...

As it gets softer my apathy increases. - VanHockeyGuy
PO's will still require a level of hard Hockey of course but it's clear they want more scoring and softer play during the regular season. Hence the fact we are seeing more 100 point players in this era now.

Lessens as the cap increases over the years which is highly probable.
Those %’s are not out of line if Petey continues production as he is likely to do. It comes down to cap spending on the rest of the roster & getting solid to good value. Next up is Miller at 8m is 9.1% for 2024. Nothing wrong with that for a 2C imo. Fans question the value on the term but as cap increases % decreases so will come down to how good the value becomes in the earlier years of the term & less on the last few years. Miller if remains healthy can overall be solid value. More focus should be on % value from the abundance of wingers. There is where the bigger question marks have been. On D it’s fluid given they are harder to measure but D costs if going to build a good top 4. In goal Demko is great value & prospects coming up will be cheap.
I am not positive but didn't Bo say last year he didn't want to talk about a new contract? So far all I have heard from both sides is lets see. In most cases it in nothing, but not always. I really have a gut feeling PA would be equally happy trading him. It doesn't matter what i think but I do have a feeling.

There was a good article on the Athletic about players playing in their contract year. Talked to agents about the pros and cons of it – I found it interesting that they said some guys are able to survive under that pressure, and some guys can't and need to get a deal done before the start of the season otherwise they start to get a bit tight and drive down some of their value.
We'll see how Petey fairs over the course of the year. I think they'll get a deal done mid-year.

I think there is a very good chance also. I just don't think it is a slam dunk. I think if the right package was offered PA would come back with one final offer. I do believe it has to be team friendly.
I know I won't like the deal just because where the team stands right now.

I think, like Bo, they have a number they're comfortable with, and if not they'll explore other options.
Unfortunately, like we agreed on with the OEL buyout, the Canucks don't really have time to wait. Their "window" (if you want to call it that) is sort of aligned with Petey and Hughes and Demko. If they trade Petey, they'll more than likely need to do a rebuild... which will never happen with FA. So they'll dip into more trades and more UFAs. And the cycle will repeat.

I’m not a fan of trading another 1st but imo Pesce is that good & a great top pair partner for Hughes. Drury adds further C depth & has a tough time cracking the Canes line up.
For me getting old is fine it’s all about getting the retirement finances completed. Wanna golf again & not cheap to fill in my extra time when plan is to do 2-3 2 week shutdowns once the game is afoot lol
Waiting on the market to improve is the biggest hold back. In the meantime it’s grind away & wait out.

Elliotte apparently went to Sweden to talk to EP and during it EP said right now he doesn't know if the contract will be short term or long term. To me that sounds like he is more waiting to see how the team does. He wants to compete and if we suck, will sign short term to get out of here. That said, he hasn't earned more than Mackinnon and if he wants 12m a season, he better sign 8 years.
