He's in college though. Don't they usually miss young stars? |

If I remember, the Canucks aren't allowed to pay for anything, so they have to pay their way there but are allowed to participate? |

Canucks have some prospects in game action this morning.
Euro Champions league action.
Joni Jurmo playing for Ives this season, starting as the 7th D and has played 4:55 through half the game. Pretty much off the prospect radar at this point in time.
Lucas Forsell playing for Farjestad again this season is listed 1RW. Played 3:48 in the first period. |

I think they are already with their college teams at that point. They are allowed to pay their way to prospect camp. |

Boston University gonna have to remember that (personally) and not Boston College is where Wallinder is playing. Their season starts Oct 7th. Classes start next Tuesday though.
It really leaves Van pretty short on prospects though. I guess we will see a lot of Abbotsford players and hopefuls.
Forwards
Alriksson
Defence
Mynio
Brzustewicz
Kudryavtsev
Goalie
Ty Young
For players that aren't in Europe and aren't in College. That's it, that aren't in Abbotsford.

I don't usually put any interest in their crap, but Faber does a good job in following the Abby team and the prospects. The article is pretty bang on and pretty much what we knew.
Decent job.

I like the current focus on the D. Gonna have better results than folks realize IMO. |

What do you think the 'better results' will be? More wins? Less goals against? Playoffs? |

More importantly, the 2023-2024 Tocchet Canucks beat the 2019 Bubble Canucks 4 games to 2 in an epic 6 game series! |

Do you think the results will be worse?
Youโd think changing out 3 players from top 4 with competent defenders one being a top RHD would have some effect. Especially on the worst PK in the NHL. |

I think Jurmo was another one of those big draft busts. Great skater nothing else. No hockey IQ.
Forsell could be a good late 7th pick. |

I, for one, don't hold too much hope in this iteration of the Canucks. I don't see Cole, Soucy or Hronek moving the needle that much. Will the D be better, yes, clearly they can't be any worse than they were last year but that's a REALLY low bar to clear. The problem still remains that save for the 4th line and Petey, our forwards do not help out the D at all and makes it harder for them to do their jobs. I can't tell you how many times I've seen our D hemmed into our own end while the forwards mostly hang around the blue line or, in Miller's case, in the neutral zone waiting for the breakout pass.
Will Tocchet fix that? Maybe, but I just don't think this team wants to play any real systems, we had that with Green but Green was a clone of AV who refused to adapt to situations and stubbornly threw out what didn't work time and time again, or else threw all his lines into a blender and then never gave the players time to gain some chemistry together. Then you had Boudreau, who's systems were basically, get the puck and do whatever you want with it as long as it's in the offensive zone and if you're in the defensive zone you're on your own.
We traded Bo who was our best faceoff center in exchange for a B-level (maybe less than that seeing as he's dropped on Abby's depth chart) center prospect, a mid-six expendable winger and a 1st round pick that turned into a injured Hronek who didn't really impress in the few games he managed to play before the season was over. Not a great look for a management team that painted itself into the corner by giving Miller 8x8 and Boeser's deal the year before, leaving no money to extend Bo. They also had to get scalped on OEL by buying him out (although that's not their fault for him being on the team, it IS their fault for putting themselves into the position where buying him out was the ONLY option to give them some breathing room cap-wise).
If you had to twist my arm and give a prediction for this year, I'd have to say at best they end up just missing the playoffs by about 3-5 points and at worst they're fighting Arizona, Anaheim for second to last place in the Western Conference standings (San Jose is going to be dead last in the NHL this year) |

It has gotten to the point some have to emerge & stand out. D Petey is trending well & Willander has high expectations. Kudryatsev is next best imo. Others have potential & reasonably good ceilings but all of them have to make some noise & still 2-3yrs away unless crazy good happens. |
