To be fair, that's like 350 more words than Michael normally puts in.

Do you think the results will be worse?

You’d think changing out 3 players from top 4 with competent defenders one being a top RHD would have some effect. Especially on the worst PK in the NHL.

- Quinn's Quest

I’d say the D corp is better defensively but remains to see how improved break outs become. That alone is a sore spot in the past. Team D was lacking big. 3.61gag/game is horrible & easily the biggest problem that needs a big improvement. Cannot rely on Bubble Demko to steal games every night & risk injury & burn out. If it’s all on Demko then nothing has changed. The PK cannot be a killer like last year & has plenty of room to get better & get more W’s. All said there is hope but it has to translate onto the ice or another long season is ahead for us.

I, for one, don't hold too much hope in this iteration of the Canucks. I don't see Cole, Soucy or Hronek moving the needle that much. Will the D be better, yes, clearly they can't be any worse than they were last year but that's a REALLY low bar to clear. The problem still remains that save for the 4th line and Petey, our forwards do not help out the D at all and makes it harder for them to do their jobs. I can't tell you how many times I've seen our D hemmed into our own end while the forwards mostly hang around the blue line or, in Miller's case, in the neutral zone waiting for the breakout pass.

Will Tocchet fix that? Maybe, but I just don't think this team wants to play any real systems, we had that with Green but Green was a clone of AV who refused to adapt to situations and stubbornly threw out what didn't work time and time again, or else threw all his lines into a blender and then never gave the players time to gain some chemistry together. Then you had Boudreau, who's systems were basically, get the puck and do whatever you want with it as long as it's in the offensive zone and if you're in the defensive zone you're on your own.

We traded Bo who was our best faceoff center in exchange for a B-level (maybe less than that seeing as he's dropped on Abby's depth chart) center prospect, a mid-six expendable winger and a 1st round pick that turned into a injured Hronek who didn't really impress in the few games he managed to play before the season was over. Not a great look for a management team that painted itself into the corner by giving Miller 8x8 and Boeser's deal the year before, leaving no money to extend Bo. They also had to get scalped on OEL by buying him out (although that's not their fault for him being on the team, it IS their fault for putting themselves into the position where buying him out was the ONLY option to give them some breathing room cap-wise).

If you had to twist my arm and give a prediction for this year, I'd have to say at best they end up just missing the playoffs by about 3-5 points and at worst they're fighting Arizona, Anaheim for second to last place in the Western Conference standings (San Jose is going to be dead last in the NHL this year)

- DariusKnight

Other than be total bottom feeders I don’t see this as pessimistic rather it’s what the challenge for the season will really be.

The new D corp break outs still a worry but the team D was as you said pathetic. The need for more speed hurts this imo. Basic hockey should be in store for us shaving off goals for but if net gain is much better goals against then we are better off pushing off for the PO’s.

200’ hockey & playing the right way & top conditioning is a must.

Better passing & receiving & transitional play has to be the result.

.406 winning percentage

Willie Desjardine was .443

- A_SteamingLombardi

Willie got a raw deal. Got a non-PO team in the PO's.

Myers gets his well deserved bonus tomorrow. What a deserving bonus that it will be. FA will open his wallet and pay TM 5 mil USD for a job well done. I only wish Benning was here to hand Myers the cheque.

I had just seen what Elvis would look like at 88. It was not pretty. We should be thankful that Elvis left the building.

No expectations this coming season. Just curious to know what LH meant when he said better results.

What we need is a solid roster for opening day. You and NFU should hit it up. Tonight.

Another for your consumption…

https://canucksarmy.com/n...in-chase-2023-24-playoffs

Tells me plenty of room for optimism. Rah Rah shish boom bah

Also tells me the doing is far from easy. The big one is goals against & how that can get done is on RT & team D & PK & steady in goal.

Summary making gains is sorely needed whether in the PO’s or not.

Given the small sample size I have my doubts about that, but he will DEFINITELY be a lot better than OEL who was slow, had problems passing to teammates and had a Tanev-like muffin for a shot. So in that vein, MASSIVE UPGRADE.

this reminds of when you guys were going off about Rathbone being better than Hughes… just no. Hronek will be a decent second pair guy, that’s all we need him to be.

Rathbone has done nothing in this league. That’s a terrible comparison.

Nobody EVER said Bones was gonna be better than Hughes. 😂

Hronek will be totally fine. Health is many fans concern but that is wait & see. Better than decent imo. He showed me good passing & quick decisions. Unlike Myers et al other than Hughes.

We can use 2 top 4 D now or in the future. A true top 2 RHD for Hughes & a top 3 LHD for Hronek. Soucy in time will be solid on the 3rd pair. Cole a good placeholder in the meantime.

There were a couple/few in here that posted "Rathbone makes Hughes expendable". There's always a couple making these claims. Even recently we had the "Silovs makes Demko expendable, they should trade him" posts.

Man Utd fans chant to the owner of their team in the street and after a game in the stands

He's gonna die,
He's gonna die,
Joel Glazer's gonna die,
How we kill him I don't know,
Cut him up from head to toe,
All I know Glazer's gonna die...
