He’ll be better all around than Hughes.

this reminds of when you guys were going off about Rathbone being better than Hughes… just no. Hronek will be a decent second pair guy, that’s all we need him to be.
- neem55

Hronek should be our version of Ekholm.

I like how we improved the D. I think it will show.
- LordHumungous

Shouldn't be difficult considering the Canucks have had one of the worst D for years.
Solid prediction on your part.

I hope it happens and as Rutherford gives him the cheque he says “you’ve been traded to x, thanks” fingers crossed!

I think the PK will show a big improvement as long as Demko returns to form.

Man, I hope so. If it’s worse then I’m out. Enough of this horseshit.

But I agree with you, on paper, the defence looks like a better group. Hope that translates into wins, or at least, a more enjoyable product to watch.

We have a Makar already we have Hughes. Just have to build around him. Easy.

Which would have been my next concern is Demko needs to be healthy for a full season and get back to form.

Yup, your takes in here - just as moronic and clueless as they are in the Leafs thread.

The problem isn't Demko or even the D, it's how much the forwards buy into going into the corners in the defensive zone and winning the puck battles to gain possession. Something which will be key since we don't have Bo to win 60 percent of the faceoffs anymore. Also, Demko is going to need a good backup that can play at least 40 percent of the games and at least be serviceable in the role so that Demko doesn't get injured or burnt out.

As much as I dislike the defense, this is one of the worst group of defensive forwards I have seen, since I played pee-wee rep, about 45years ago,

Absolutely clueless.

I’d put it on winning more puck battles in general & better pressure on the puck. Wingers in the D zone corners is not a place of danger. Yes better back up play to support Demko is a must to compete better.

The roster isn’t built good enough against bigger teams winning board battles & disrupting the cycle. The neutral zone also isn’t a strong point nor the forecheck. We have to execute better when we have the puck & win the puck possession battle on more nights. I’m hoping the new built D can help more in the D zone & wingers support better &/or even create more turnovers.

They goal suck, Pavel Bure used to do the same thing as Miller does by hanging just outside the zone waiting for the breakaway pass but at least he would mix it up in the defensive zone when the D was being hemmed in. This group just floats around the point and blueline waving their sticks as their checks go around them with the puck and leave the D hanging having to defend the net and retrieve the puck.

You’ve described passive D where I think Tocchet will up the tempo & pressure. He wants top conditioning & I can see him wanting a dogged work hard roster top to bottom. Passengers won’t last long is my guess. There has to be a total buy in & change in team attitude. No team goes anywhere if not.

Like asking the players to arrive in Vancouver mid August to start skating together.
They've only been off since early April, got to get those last few weeks in before their 5 month summer ends. Dedication, culture, structure, team...

so true. I miss the days of Brian Burke as he seemed to hold his players accountable to fellow teammates, the team, the city, and the fans. If a player showed any sort of disinterest, he was driven to the airport immediately.

Say what you will about Burkie, but his teams were always 100% committed.

I hearya there. Well they better come with a great attitude when they do arrive. It’s a crucial season to get this on the tracks. Slow & horrible starts cannot continue.

Pretty harsh

I realize you’re not impressed yet with the roster. D has just begun to be remade with lots still to do. Is still a good step. I’m still on wait n see the wingers can be better or at least impact more in other ways to offset or outscore into wins. Healthy Miky I look forward to seeing. Suter & Bleuger has me intriqued on what they might bring to the party.

I just wanna see a hard working team every night & see what it leads to. I guess that would be the entertaining we all want. Teams like Canes & NYI use team D play buy in & shows it is structure RT probably tries to get outta them. Time for the ol ‘accountable’ to get real & every shift no passengers. Has to be infectious to have a chance. Team D is the best way to winning if going places. A very big ask for sure.
