And?

And I would take that over the great Yzerman built Redwings any day. Just because a bunch of Debbie Downers proclaim everyone on the Canucks is a castoff or the worst doesn’t make it true.

Detroits free agent signings were bizarre this summer. I don't think Yzerman is a genius nor a Benning. I'm just glad there were no Beagle-esque free agent signings by the Canucks this summer. The first off season in about 8 years that hasn't been an unmitigated disaster. We'll see how training camp goes.

Yeah I agree with all this, how anyone can call Detroits roster better than what the Canucks have is laughable. IMO

Benning turned out to be a terrible, definitely out of his element in the GM roll.

Ahhh sorry man, maybe there's a few guys on the team you can brush off as a rough season, but not Myers. He's had a bad 4 seasons, and Winnipeg let him walk because he wasn't playing very well there either. One of those rumoured to go to Van all the way and we just had to have. Just like OEL, he's been a disaster on the ice he's just perceived not as much so because he didn't cost us trade assets as well.

This isn't true. People forget he was our top plus minus guy on D 2 years ago at +15.

The entire team stunk last season. The Goaltending we got wasn't very good either. The forwards looked lost in our D zone. Our breakouts and forecheck were brutal. If you want to lay that on 1 guy, fine. I'm not going to though.

Post mortem is low hanging fruit narrative. Oversimplified.

I’d give VGK the credit for hard work & them all buying into a system they’ve played since inception. Skate & play every shift. That doesn’t take talent but once all on the same page talent can be the decider.

This is all bang on. That said Myers hasn’t performed up to his contract since being here. Not totally his fault but JB signed him. On a better built D corp he is a 4D at best & more like 4m per at most.

Definitely not fair. I don't think you can lay it ALL on Myers.... him and OEL deserve an equal share.

Untrue it all can be laid on JB.

Gudbranson
Myers
OEL

ALL costly & set back the team for years. Big isn’t the solution. Talent & value is.

Don't fool yourself into thinking VAN won't have the same issue.

With our years of not drafting D high we’ve sunk to where we are for these many years. Only just begun to rectify that & it’ll still be 2-3 years to see the fruit. Instant UFA fixes are rare especially RHD. Next up is Pesce 2024 if he tests the market. Cap gymnastics will continue given the current roster but he has to be a target. He won’t come in at Pietrangelo price tag but imo would be a seriously great add if we juggle the cap space next TDL & offseason.

Future D look

Hughes Pesce
D Petey Hronek
Truscott Willander

Kudryatsev in the mix for a spot.

Canucks issue is more immediate to play structured hard working hockey. Team D & PK namely. Beyond that is the next challenge.

Of course, they're not currently in a position to play meaningful hockey.

Took a stab at 2024…

https://www.capfriendly.c.../armchair-gm/team/4517037

Some wishful thinking of course but predicated on 2023 being a good season to entice UFA’s.

That CF AGGM is dreamy but my intent was to fit the window PA has decided we are in.

If we were to only get Pesce that imo would make us serious enough to be PO perennials. Still need to do some more work on the bottom 6.

I have a feeling Canucks have another move up their sleeve before the summer is done. Actually I think two moves. I don't think Myers will be here opening night.

I still want to see a top line of Petey Kuz and Nylander but I can wait until he is a UFA. That would challenge any top scoring line in hockey.

One more D acquisition before summer is done.
