It is we great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodion Amirov. Two years ago, Rodion was diagnosed with a brain tumour. From the moment he received the news, he refused to speak in the negative, determined to enjoy every day, facing it with the same positive attitude he showed during his hockey career. We will always remember his courage, his desire, his will, his smile, all of the great things about him. We’d like to thank his doctors, who took great care of him. We’d like to thank the Toronto Maple Leafs and his KHL - Salavat Yulayev Ufa team. Both did everything possible to help in any way, do whatever was necessary for Rodion and the Amirov family. And we’d like to thank hockey fans all over the world who sent notes of encouragement and best wishes over the past two years. They meant so much to the Amirov family.

That is so awful. The last I'd read sounded encouraging with regards to his prognosis.

So perhaps a silly question, but did Amirov ever play in a Leafs jersey - prospect camp or training camp?

I don’t think the last bit of news about him was encouraging. It could’ve been interpreted that way, but I think they were just doing a nice thing for him.

Never did....he was drafted in the pandemic year and did not come over for training camp i believe due to travel restrictions in 2021. The only time he came over was after the prognosis.

Rest in peace young man. By all accounts he kept a positive attitude about his life while dealing with so much adversity. It’s important to remember him as a classy young man who was a son, brother etc.
Hopefully Dubas and entire Leafs organization treated him extremely well.

The kid has the talent but here’s hoping he can overcome the size issue. Curious to see how well he holds up in pro hockey.

don’t ever let anyone tell you “you can’t teach size”…🤦‍♂️

They brought him around the team last October I think?

Maybe it was the season opener? I remember him being there and being called as if he was in the opening lineup.

You cannot teach “it” but you can teach the “use of it” no?

At least that’s my excuse 🤨

Not a math guy eh - but I think it checks with the outgoing salary on trades (including Brodie straight for a couple picks to shave 5M).

Just having fun here boys not a GM. To me this lineup not as soft come playoff time.
