Kent Hughes just said he had an opportunity to get some assets to help facilitate the Karlsson trade and taking Petry was part of that deal.

He also basically said that he was trying to do the best for the player, he wanted to try to move Petry as soon as possible, for his family (getting kids into school, move before season, etc...) and he felt that holding on to Petry for the potential of maybe getting a little more assets down the road was not worth the impact to the player or his family.

So good on Hughes for getting something (so far a 2nd, a 4th, Lindström , a prospect and DeSmith) for nothing (Hoffman, Pitlick and some cap space), while also being a stand up guy.

This is the kind of move other players notice and builds credibility for the management team.
