13th forward still counts as a lock. He's on the roster of 13 forwards.

Sully also wanted to make sure WBS was stocked with some call up guys too. Nylander has a shot, but don't think he's on the team yet, let alone third or second line.
- Tojo.

And they got call up guys who play a certain way. The way Sully wants them to. This is a big season for him to show his system can do even more with less. Not that last year wasn't. Coming 1 point away with that roster was a hell of a coaching job.

Carter is a lock as long as he's a Penguin since they can't move him so he gets a roster spot. If Dubas can pull off a miracle and trade him (with his consent) or if he ends up on LTIR, great, but for opening day I'm expecting Carter to be on the roster.

Too bad his wife lives in Philly. One of the teams that wouldn’t do right by him just to screw us for a year.

He's shot man. The trade was good, the extension was super dumb. Most nights he had it packed in.
- 668710

He’s the best option available to stand infront of the net out of the forwards available. Not only will his contribution to the team rise but Sid, Karlson and Malkin will benefit from it as well. You have to be objective about it with no preconceived human emotion on the subject. Have no worries though I’m sure Guentzel will be there cycling the puck around helping Sid and Geno out smart themselves.

He'll be on LTIR at some point and never come off.

Right around the trade deadline I could see it.

Youre probably right. However, I will say that he and Flyers new GM Danny Briere were teammates for 4 seasons in Philly....maybe he brings his bud home to finish off his career where it started and be closer to his wifey...

He WAS the best option for that. The one thing that saved him when his legs started to go was his shot, but his hands turned to stone. I'd rather put Rust net front at this point.

And if his only contribution is to stand still in front of the net on PPs, then he shouldn't be in the lineup.

I'd give it a shot for sure...just on the second unit first to see how it goes....

I'm not being emotional, I'm using my eyes from last season. Now will he bounce back at 38, turning 39 in January? We don't know, but at his age and him not being one of the elite talents in the league like Sid and Geno odds are not in his favor.

Hey, we're tanking. Throw in a few picks and we'll take him.

At this point, if he is in the lineup he'll have to be the second units center.

Well logically all Carter can really contribute is being a 4th line winger and a PP specialist so grinder has a fairly valid take here.

I'm not putting Carter on the 1st unit, I mean if his hands were still there last year I'd consider it.

If there’s a forward you don’t mind getting hit by Geno clapbombs he’s your guy.

If the 1st PP unit was Sid, Geno, Carter, EK and Tanger.....would it be the oldest 1st PP unit of all time? I'm thinking it would have to be hahaha...hell, it probably would be without Carter as well

The idea that you need silky hands to be successful on the PP is what’s wrong with the Pens PP.

I didn't say Silky hands, Ryan Malone was an animal in front for us he had decent hands still. If any big guy was good in front of the net on the pp no matter the skill don't you think most NHL teams would do it?

Yeah, not enough crash and bang chaos around the net. Not enough clappin' through traffic leading to rebounds in that area for crash and bang. I'm net front when I play. My clapper isn't the best but I have quick hands and a lot of leg/lower body strength to battle for lose pucks/balls. So, close to the net is where I get a lot of goals. I get hit with the puck/ball a lot in front of net hahah oh well, only tickles for a few mins...Im 6 foot 195 pounds so Im a decent size for screening as well.

EDIT: I just looked it up...Carter is 6'3 and 219 pounds...i wouldnt of said that big if I was asked...thats pretty big hahaha

I knew Carter was big haha, now if he collects his hands back this year I'm good with him being net front. But he gotta be able to make little passes, tip pucks, get rebounds.

No one said silky hands. Guys like John LeClair and Tomas Holmstrom never had silky hands, but they knew how to get to the loose pucks and bury them. Plus they were just about impossible to muscle off the puck. I wouldn't put Carter (let alone 38/39 year old Carter) with them.

Those guys had quick hands, not necessarily silky. Horny did too. By quick I mean you have your blade to the puck getting shot or pass off quick from a rebound or bounce. Hand eye coordination comes into it so a quick brain is part of it too.

When I think of silky hands I think of someone like Datsyuk or Kane.
