Reilly Smith is here in Cape Breton with the Cup. I didn’t know that he has family ties here but apparently he does. I guess he has summer home here too.

I cant believe have many people actually thought he was going to leave Even after he stated he wanted to get the deal done by the start of the season.

Average has nothing to do with a top 3 player in his sport.

Looking at the top 3 in all, is where the comparison tells the tale. That is why he, and the NHL in general, are underpaid.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Hes not underpaid and neither is the nhl considering their popularity in the states.
Thats what drives their revenue and pay.
Doesnt matter that hes a top 5 player in the league, its the 4th or 5th popular sport in the states and the gap is still pretty wide

Why is giving my opinion that he's not underpaid trolling?

It's only legit when you agree?

- Nasty_Duck

No it’s your bias and tone that makes it a troll comment and you stated it as a question which people have answers not your opinion.

The fact you go to other blogs and rip on the Leafs all the time and come in here pretending not to be trolling is a bit of a joke bud you do you.

Just don’t be shocked when you are called out for it.

I understand that.

They're still underpaid, though.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Compared to my laughable effort, I'm extremely overpaid😁

Good signing, now pay Nylander what he deserves, 5yrs at 10.5M/yr. Marner will get his 12M/yr next summer

Hopefully for the Leafs AM can stay healthy this season and be the player he showed in 21/22, his wrist really seemed to bother him last season for some games.

1. I get the posting in here because your teams thread is boring - but the problem is you are chirping bud. Negative to stir up crap.

2. The problem is nobody wanted your negative opinion as a bruins fan. Why give it if it’s negative. Not insecurity - to me insecurity is watching your team commit the single biggest hero to zero flop in sport, having ONE if the better players your franchise has ever seen retire with a whimper and cone into a leafs thread to chirp the best 2 way centre in the leagues new contract.

3. How do you type what you did (better hope he plays better…) and then try to defend it like it’s not a troll job? As if folks in here can’t go back and read it. You posted saying that a pure scorer is 11th in points and 4th in cap hit - and that’s not trolling?

Don’t look up - you might find your head is stuck.

- Big23Questions

Fair deal and not underpaid is a negative opinion?

Oh really?

I defend Leafs at least as much as I might criticize them. Prove otherwise.

And in this particular case, the only thing I might be criticizing is someone's evaluation of the deal - not the player or the team. It's amazing you can't understand the difference.

poor internet in his basement, give him a break.

We could always go back to Howard Berger for rapid "unbias" opinions

Nylander will get between $9.25-9.5M. I think way too many variables right now on Marner’s deal - his play this season, how much JT gives back, decisions on Bertuzzi and others. Like Matthews I think there’s very little chance Marner plays somewhere else.

I remember those days. Still remember the one where he called Ron Wilson hypersensitive. That thread was in 4 digits.

Lol ya I'm not wasting my time "proving otherwise" thanks I know what I read and have read in the past from you. This would include your outrage about Bunting's elbow in last year's playoffs and then your turtle impression and almost silence until you were pressed endlessly when a Bruin's player committed a hit that was at least as dirty if not more so.

The Big Bad Bruins can do no wrong thought right?

I happened to take a peek in the Boston blog yesterday and saw someone had posted an opinion that was negative (Hawks fan I believe) and everyone jumped down his throat - guess you missed that eh? It happens in EVERY teams thread - It's amazing you can't comprehend that when it happens to you here.

It's equally amazing you can't see or understand your own hypocrisy.

Keep back peddling though it's cute.

No thank you re. Nylander. This Matthews deal means Nylander is as good as gone.

It started the summer he was drafted because Lou was late signing him to his entry level contract.

I actually don't think so unless he wants >10M.

I could see a long term deal at 10 or less being the path the Leafs take on him when you factor in the anticipated cap increases year over year. That plus things like JT's 11M coming off the books and only a fraction of that needing to be put back to him to get him to re-sign and retire a Leaf.

That being said who knows and the fact the Matthews extension was kept so quiet when everyone was focused on Willy is a testament to Tree AND Matthews and his agent. Especially in a time where using your agent (or agents deciding to do it) to negotiate in public has become such a common thing.

I'm good with Willy staying - even if it ends up being an 'own rental' for this season and he walks. Gaining 7M in cap space is getting something back for an asset IMO and it's enough if you can't re-sign the player & better than playing a season without the 40 goal winger just to get some picks and prospects.

Now if a blockbuster deal for a true #1 stud D man is in the cards for Willy being traded I'm all in but I don't know what team has one they want to give up before the season even starts.

From the article:

I love playing in Edmonton, and I really feel at home there. Lauren loves being in Edmonton. There are a lot -a lot of things that check the boxes for us in Edmonton. We're super comfortable there. But with that all being said, it's three years down the road. We've got to kind of see where our lives are at and kind of go from there.

I don't say that to raise eyebrows or cause panic. It's just the way that it is. But love playing in Edmonton, I'm 100 per cent committed to winning in Edmonton with this group..

Stoke the fires of the "AM and MC Jesus have a secret plot to play together in Toronto when MC David's current contract is up". lol

As much as people in Edmonton hate Toronto already this would push it to next level stuff! Now just imagine if Matthews had said anything of the sorts to the media before he re-upped!!!!
