Adding term to a contract this summer was mostly seen as a good thing because of the cap going up the next few years.

I agree this contract won't make things worse for the Leafs moving forward, except maybe in year 1.

JT signing back on for 50% or less, is gonna be massive. If Nylander and Marner sign reasonable deals, they'll likely be able to re-sign Bertuzzi, if he wants to be here.

I could care less about term.

As long as he stays and continues to take the discount these superstars in hockey are expected to take I am happy.

I think he wants to be here, first and foremost. So I think he'll understand that in order for that to happen, he'll need to comply with the teams CAP.

Short-term deal with a stunted CAP hit.

Decent deal. JT is done in two years and McDavid signs up and the Leafs become dynasty!

Great deal for all parties involved. Another 4 years with a marginal raise is a huge win.

In a way, AM34 signing for a relatively "short" term leads me to believe he's confident in his health that he'll be able to sign a mega deal after this one. To wit: he's betting on himself which is always a good sign.

So spitballin' .....Marner and Draisaitl come due in the summer of 25'. Cap is supposed to be ~ 92M. Pastarnak Cap% would get them about 12.5M per season.

McDavid (and assuming another 4M bump in the Cap) comes due the summer of 26'. At his current Cap% he'd get about $16M.

I think plus/minus a few bucks that's where they all land if they stay with their current teams.

I still think the last 16 contract was high so it inflated this next one - but ya given this one and what you mentioned I could see 12-12.5 for Marner & 12.5-12.75 for Drais
