Buffalo has for the most part done exactly what New Jersey has done.

New Jersey’s breakout was last year. It’s the Sabres’ turn this year.

I don’t doubt one second that if the right player with term comes along that Adams won’t pull the trigger.

If Hanifin or Pesce wanted to play in Buffalo and were willing to do an extension I’m sure they would have been here already.

What Adams doesn’t want to do is splurge on rentals as he we aren’t at that point yet, and really I can’t fault him for that.

Internal growth has worked to date, and very well can continue to do so. The external additions he has made have improved the depth of the roster and ultimately may provide him the time to remain patient and wait for the right deal instead of panicking and making a desperation move.

This is a very talented roster, despite the holes.

We’ll see how the next several months play out

Adams has prime Dahlin, Power, Cozens and Tage to build around.

What are the no doubt long term pieces on the roster, beyond the 4 listed above?

I'm a big Peterka fan, and a fan of Quinn, but why are they guaranteed long term pieces?

They have quite a ways to go before being classified as such. Same for Samuelsson.

That's not even counting the prospects who have proven zippo at the NHL level so far.
