::In a mom voice:: We already had a Patrick Kane and we didn't play with him nicely. You'll just have to play with the toys you have

I never followed up with you the other day.

I purchased EA Play (because I'm an idiot) to try NHL 23. I don't know if you play HUT but that was my main focus the last few seasons I played. HUT looks like a disaster and even this late in the season the pack odds are horrendous and the initial cards they give you to start a team are a joke.

That being said the normal areas of the game seem decent. I may buy 24 but I'm unsure right now. I'm so out of practice from being away from the game for almost 4 years. Also with the way the player base is still split I'm not sure there's ever going to be a decent population to play with. Why you can't play between all generations AND platforms is beyond me.

More speed. Oh, and not having 11.5m tied up in a player that disappears and plays small and slow in the playoffs. If he was at 8-9m/year maybe, but 11.5 reeeeally hampers us.

“Here play with this Blake Wheeler, it’s a little beat up and rusty but it’s all we can afford right now.”

Ya HUT is a scam and should be illegal. If they ever get a class action lawsuit going my dumb ass is gonna be entitled to a ton of $$

I was always a F2P player aside from buying the deluxe edition or whatever to get a slight head start. I don't think I have ever spent money on packs from the store.

It should be illegal. You have people on reddit and other forums saying how they spend 600+ a season on the game. It's basically gambling with even worse odds.

The problem with the “head start” is the cards at the beginning of the season are significantly worse than the ones at the end.

Well, back in 2018 it was nice cards, 85 OA in some cases. You also got rewarded with 91 OA players for hitting milestones etc.

I cannot believe that mid to high 70's cards are considered gold now. My team was (frank)ing awful out of the gate. My best players were Trouba and Lindgren until I upgraded an X-Factor I had on D. My best forward was Ryan Reaves at 79 OA.

I haven't played an NHL game in years and I have absolutely no idea what in the hell either of you are talking about

I assume the game has become a pay-to-win circus like most other video games?

Playing with other people outside of HUT can be really fun. As long as what we're doing looks like hockey and not ice capades.

Every game has become a pay to win circus. Theyve taken the model that phone apps have well established and put it on steroids in the video game market.

Just one game mode is. It's called Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT). You open packs to start and can win packs and currency to buy more packs/players. The issue is that the odds are abysmal on the packs and EA also offers the packs for real money so you can gamble on fake hockey cards from your mom's basement.

Some people spend like 1k the first few days to be able to build the early game all 99 stat cards (usually Lemieux and/or Gretzky/Jagr.

Well now that you've been able to gamble on games the past few years and apparently now theyre working on a way to turn game accolades into physical money as well... the circus is only going to get worse.

Who would have thought that a movie in 2006 (Idiocracy) would play out so spot on in reality in just 15 years.

The issue, as I just said, these people spend $1k on those cards, then go and gamble in 1v1 matches and make it all back cause theyve stacked their team.

I wasn't aware that they were doing that. Is it specific games? Because I don't think NHL does it (yet).
