I had to torch my neighbor out a couple years ago. Idiot ran over a towel. I was like why the (frank) did you have a towel under the snow?!

As for the topic, sorry Jan.. Personally feel the lack of fight is the biggest obstacle. They have the offense, defense is slighty above average, goalie is amazing. The team toughness and mental toughness seems to be the biggest issue for me. Not talking about fighting, but being physical, playing like you care, seems really lacking with this group for years.

Partly my fault on the off topic stuff.

Biggest obstacle in my opinion was always the lack of a structure/system and inability to adjust. Can only do so much when the game plan is "go out there and play". I think the things you mentioned come when there's cohesiveness and identity and hopefully Lavs brings that. The core of the team is and has been set for a few years at this point due to NMC/NTC. Individually, Kreider, Mika, Panarin, Fox, Trouba, Lindy, Trocheck are all at minimum above average at what they do. Just have to give them parameters in which to do it as well as a style of game to maximize that. The wildcard, which is absolutely necessary, is putting the young guys in positions to take the leaps they need to make for the team to win

I agree to an extent, it just seems like this team toughness think has been lacking through several coaches. Lavy is pretty tough and has a system, so hopefully you are right and that fixes some of these issues.

in 1994 ECF vs the Devils, games 4 and 5, the Rangers played just as bad and without heart as they did in games 4, 5 and 7 in first round vs Devils in 2023.

and that team in 1994 had Messier and Leetch

what we didn't have this year is a ruthless coach like Keenan and a leader like Messier to put the team on his back like he did in game 6 in '94 (after Richter saved their bacon)

but I do think people tend to forget how bad they looked and how disinterested they looked in '94 for a couple of games

We got the coach now; I think… we thought we had it with GG, but I think were still lacking that leader. Trouba and Kreider are solid pieces to the puzzle, but we dont have a Messier.

How many Messier’s have there been though? Who is even close to that on VGK? Landeskog and Stamkos are cool but messier they are not. Ovi? Great player but we have great players. Maybe Crosby is the closest? We have no less leadership, even if by committee, than recent champs

Yeah. For me its about all season, not particularly a series or playoffs. It just seems there isn't much fight with this team. Games they win its a lot of offense and pretty plays. I can't remember a really good tough win they had where they had to grind it out all game.

I wish we had the same core but with a Callahan/Dubi, mentality. I don't see that. Those guys were intense, they hated losing, you could see it. Other than Trouba against Detroit, our leadership seems ok with losing.

I guess. Even in those series though, other than maybe a game or 2, it didn't seem like the drive was there.

I think GG had so much to do with that but we will see. Lavy is intense. GG seemed more concerned with how he was gonna craft his next snarky comment to the media

GG probably had an impact. But you also wish the players had the mentality to play balls out as well in SPITE of a lazy coach.
the "(frank) it, ill do it myself" attitude.

Also, this thread was fun to read. hah

Do you have any current family medical issues or home DIY projects or snowblower/lawn mower items to discuss

I pulled the diff cover off my truck, cleaned it up and swapped the oil.

Also sprayed brake cleaner in my face.

Do these count?

I think some of those wins in the series vs Penguins and Carolina were, not a whole lot last year though

I believe that counts as both a medical issue and a DIY

Broken down and with worn metal in it adds a nice flavor to it.

Were not gonna know whats what with these guys until we get to see them under Lavy. He definitely has the intensity. Prior to the Caps, he had consecutive appearances in the cup final with 3 different teams, winning with the Canes... plus a Calder Cup win before becoming a HC. The guy definitely knows how to coach Cup contenders.

Pretty much how I see it. If the intensity isn't there, its the group. Hopefully these younger guys thrive under Lavy.

Agree with you guys thinking Lavy brings some fire and accountability. Maybe this pushes Kreider to play tougher than he has lately, inspiring the kids. MDW is right that there is no Cally or Dubi type forward on this team, they had such intensity. Cally still does on the broadcast.
