Ishakov's shootout skills alone would help the Islanders and they can sure use his speed. Just seems like other teams are calling up players sooner now days. I could be wrong. Ishakov is also 23 and not 18. Just think it's time for a different approach with prospects. - ses111
Have to agree. The Islanders ruin their prospects. I mean just look at what they did to the can’t miss, Uber talented ( just ask him) Josh Ho Sang.

This makes sense. JHS did not work out so Islanders should not bother with any prospects and the Islanders do not need any improvement in player development. The key is just keep using 3rd and 4th line vets. PP and offense are overrated. Speed and skill is not part of the current NHL. Losing to the Canes was a fluke. |

Wonder if this means that Bailey is hanging them up - eichiefs9
Nah, he'll probably sign with Colorado or Arizona and end up potting close to 40 goals. |

Isles will be better than people think. A good start is imperative. Maggio is gonna push for a spot, probably Holmstrom's spot. Kid has a great shot and added 10lbs this offseason.

Bailey does not seem like a PTO type of player. Did he shows these last few years with the Islanders he still had the passion for this game? |

Correct. Imagine if he was on the first line instead of Leo when we lost to the Bolts.
we would have won the cup |

I do not think they are going to be bad. But a lot of things have to go right for them.

Have to agree. It’s not about the team being bad. It’s about whether they are good enough for the Cup. This is a vet team and not an up-and-coming team with a lot of time like the Devils. Fans are not being unreasonable being unhappy the team took steps back after two ECF trips. Expectations were raised with the two ECF trips. The idea is to get to the Cup after making the ECF and not taking steps back. |

Nope. Buyouts of a player age 26 or older pay the 2/3 of the remaining contract value over twice the remaining length (younger than 26 get paid 1/3 of the remaining money over the same timeframe, but those are relatively rare)
So if you're owed $6M in actual money with 3 years left on your deal and get bought out then you end up getting paid $4M spread over 6 years
In Zach's case he was owed $10M over the last four years of his deal. So he was/is owed $6.66M spread over 8 years. Which works out to about $833k per year until 2029 - eichiefs9
Thanks for the explanation! I will probably ask you again next offseason. |

Wahlstrom and Dobson take a step, Horvat and Barzal are everything they’ve been hyped up to be on here, and they don’t get stung to bad by the injury bug they can potentially be pretty good. I can also see it go the other direction if a couple of those things I mentioned don’t happen. |

Agreed it is not just part one with the isles being better. It needs to be multiple parts that have not been consistent or healthy. If they all gel and stay healthy it could be an exciting season.

Face it. We are New York fans. We are not known for our patience. I understand what your saying. But without being in the room with Ledecky, Malkin and Lou. We are all spit balling. We have no idea what the constraints are.
I have come to the conclusion that, we could not get better with what was out there. Lets keep what we have because we know what to expect until we can find something else.

No Cups since 1983 so I think Islander fans have been more than patient. NY teams in all sports have not been good in bringing home the titles. I know Lou is not responsible for most of the drought. I do know money and the building are no longer constraints.
Nothing left to do but to watch and see how everything plays out. Hopefully it all works out. I'll try to be done with comments on the offseason and just focus when the season starts. |
