For me the thing is that we all love Kessel even though he never fought for a loose puck or backchecked in his career. He never scored forty even though he probably had the talent to score 50 easily. Wilson wanted to try a new breakout play to help get out of their own end and he flat out said no, tv cameras caught it at practice. He was a one shot and done rush player.

The Willy hatred may have more to do with the Swedish name, the same way people disliked the Sedin’s.
