Haha I do think Lange slipped a bit so I can imagine newer fans not being into him. But the man is a legend. - Tojo.
When we were in highschool we were in line for the student rush, Lange pulled up in this beat up poop brown car with a bottle of Jack on the dash and when he got out an empty bottle hit the ground and when he looked up he saw all of us starring at him and he just screams " it's a hockey night in Pittsburgh" and walks right into the civic arena. Damn Legend lol |

I forgot Aussie didn't watch the games and just argued that listening on the radio gave him a better perspective. - Tojo.
It was an exercise of pure deference to expertise except the expertise he was deferring to sucked ass. His whole point was “I’m right because since I didn’t see the game I’m not blinded my personal bias and got to experience the game through the eyes of an actual NHLer who knows more than you.”
Real galaxy brain level stuff. |

I miss student rush days. I can't tell you how many classes I skipped freshman year to watch the Pens crush the spring of 09. I think I saw 5/6 wins in about a months time. Seats ranged from lower bowl to that one section F where you could almost touch the roof of the igloo . |

Yea it was great you couldn't beat it, $20-$25 and your seat could be anywhere. I miss the igloo badly, wish they could have renovated it. It was absolutely an amazing/unique place and I feel bad for any Pens fan who didn't experience it. A lot of people forget that they won the cup in its last season(09) they just raised the banner in the new one. |

I lived in Australia for a few years and mostly listened to the radio stream of the games then, though for a practical reason: the games were live in the morning there when I was at work (typically starting 9 or 10am). I could get some work done while listening but not while watching. |

For the 2001 playoff run I had tickets in the last row of F. My buddy who went with me that year to the games was 6'3" and after Straka scored in OT vs the Caps my buddy jumped up and he did actually hit the roof. A bunch of insulation-looking fibers came raining down on us and everybody around us but nobody cared because we won. |

I can’t say that I’ve ever had an opinion about a broadcast team really except maybe that clown in Boston. I think the Pens play a very boring game under Sully and the announcers have to talk about something. I like that Errey and Bourque aren’t afraid to call players out who are severely lacking in the testicular fortitude department. There’s a lot to talk about their with the Pens. Either way a broadcast is a broadcast. It has no significant impact on my viewing pleasure. |

I actually agree with you. A good broadcast team is a plus but I’m capable of ignoring a bad broadcast team unless they’re particularly grating like the Boston guys. But guys like Mears and Kenny Albert I can just ignore and it’s no skin off my back. |

Since things are slow I have a question:
So it’s accepted that if we get Tatar it’ll be through a PTO. My question is that if we know we’re going to sign Tatar, what’s the point of signing him to a PTO first instead of just giving him the contract we know we’re eventually going to give him? It’s the preseason so we’re allowed to be over the cap. |

I think for competition amongst other people who think spots would still be up for grabs?
I also feel like we just straight up sign him to a super cheap 1 year deal or not at all. |

I'm not assuming it has to be a PTO. PTO is usually to add competition to make the team without committing, and almost no chance Tatar wouldn't make the team.
Pros are you get to see the fit first and aren't committed if a prospect plays there way into that spot that you weren't expecting. I can't see either.
The other is if you sign him and you're over the cap, you put yourself in a bad leverage situation of being forced to make a trade you might not want to to dump salary. I remember we almost had to trade Rust once when GMJR did that, though I forget all the circumstances.
If they can get Tatar at a cap figure they can manage, I'd agree, just sign him. But I wouldn't want to get in a spot where they have to dump salary and might not find a taker for anyone we're willing to trade |

Ok remember the situation.
When the Pens signed Tanev, it put them over the cap. They tried for months to trade Gudbranson or JJ but couldn't find a taker. They even started with someone on LTIR because they couldn't make it work and Rust's name started to pop up as someone they might have to trade because people would want him. Fortunately, they got Anaheim to take Gudbranson's full salary in late October. That ended up being Rust's breakout year, so it would have been a disaster to be forced to trade him.
So that's one example Vic of why it wouldn't be a good idea to go over the cap now. But if they get Tatar at a number they can fit, I'd do it. I think he's just weighing his options until the last minute because nobody else is really available. |

I’m kinda running off the assumption that we can only sign Tatar for like 1.2 mil or less. That you can make work regardless by just sending guys down. Obviously if the plan is to give him a bigger contract then yeah I get the PTO, but if it’s just near vet min I don’t get why we wouldn’t just sign him. |

We can sign Tatar for 1mil and send Pitlick out and be cap compliant. That's basically it unless they move Carter |

Let’s be honest. When Ryan Wilson says “good broadcast team” he wants to see Austin Mathews purse, Someone dancing on the ice in warmups, a woke transgender story worked in sideways to the intermission report. Damn those old time NHLrs offering any insight from a former players perspective. |
