Rumours is actually a pretty good album. Nothing like equal doses of infidelity and cocaine to fuel the creative juices

I can’t think of many examples where a star player resigns with the same team after playing out the final year in his contract. There’s too many variables in play. That’s why I don’t think he’ll be a Leafs opening day. The player and GM will develop too much dislike towards each other. Relationships are built on trust and respect.

Maybe I’m wrong. But I think we see something very soon.

Stamkos and Pasternak are two examples, but you're right, there aren't many.

I'm ready to watching some hockey either way!

Apparently, Isles fans wouldn't trade Dobson straight up for Willie.

Why would they?

A 23 year old top-4 defenseman signed to 4mil and a controllable RFA with basically back to back 50 point seasons vs a 27 year old pending UFA winger who will want a lot of money?

Yep those are two of the more recent ones. Both those players are cornerstone players. I don’t think the Leafs view Willy in the same light.

It’s a case of too much of one thing for the Leafs. They have a top 3 C and a top 1-2 RW.. sure they’d like to have another top 15 RW but he’s demanding a lot (as is his right). I really like what Tre did this summer. I think he’s already replaced whatever offence they’ll lose if Willy leaves. Use that 9-10M toward keeping goals out of your net instead.

Yea I’ve seen it. It’s alright. Wasn’t as good as I was hoping.

I like Billions. Justified Primeval was pretty good. Snowfall. Succession. Watch Telemarketers, it’s kinda funny and crazy. Those type of shows I’ll watch. I can’t do superhuman stuff.

I 100% get what you mean with Dobson - contract output age etc. but you kinda dumbed down Willy there. Just remarked on his age and that he wants a lot of money. It’s like cherry picking stats to highlight one player vs another. It’s easy to do.

His/his agents number is what it is on Leafs. He’s using in room comparables and frankly it makes sense. He won’t get that on any other team. That’s a thing Dubas allowed to happen. If he did go to Isles his number would change in my opinion.

If they did the deal (even 1for1) both teams would be dealing from strength to fill weak spots.

Imagine a group of fans overrating their teams players.

But Dobson seems to be a player you build around.

Again with the Willy/Isles thing eh (on main page of the site)

I would think if Buds move Willy it needs to be Dobson coming back - Not sure anyone else would really be worth it.

No kidding geez. I fully get Isles fans saying they would rather keep Dobson over getting Willy for sure - they just lose me when they start talking poop about the Leafs and calling Willy overrated or talking like Dobson is Makar and Willy is some 3rd liner. Just makes them look foolish.
Both good players and both fans could make logical points to justify not making the deal. The immature obsession some folks have at bashing leafs never ceases to amaze.

Someone will give Nylander $10M.

I wouldn’t, but one of the 32 GMs will.

Nylander at 10m is basically Kucherov money.

Kuch is a douche, but I'd take him at 10 over Willy at 10.

The cap is about to start rising notably. The all around stars (McDavid, Matthews, etc) will start routinely getting $13+ million which means the one way players (like Nylander) who are more than a PPG in their prime will start costing a bare minimum of $9-$10 million.

That $10 mill mark will start to get used far more than fans are used to, the number is what the player accepts mid contract, not it’s beginning.

I think there's far too many variables in play to predict the cap rising "notably" year-ion-year.

GMs giving out 10M contracts be warned!

They’re already assuming confidently it will be $4-5 million jumps per year after the upcoming season. I’m guessing by the time Matthews’ deal is up the cap should be up and over $100 million hence why he took the short term deal.

Agree here. Assuming the cap goes up as projected. NHL star salaries are still chump change next to what NBA, NFL, and MLB stars make. Of course, those leagues have much higher revenue pools to work with.
