Agree here. Assuming the cap goes up as projected. NHL star salaries are still chump change next to what NBA, NFL, and MLB stars make. Of course, those leagues have much higher revenue pools to work with.

Oh yeah, nhl hockey is the 4th most popular sport in North America plain and simple so the other athletes will, and should, make more.

As it stands the “made predictions” have it at $87.5 mill next year and $92 mill the following year. Pretty safe to say the agents, who make 3-5% off the contract, will be focusing on this.

They’re already assuming confidently it will be $4-5 million jumps per year after the upcoming season. I’m guessing by the time Matthews’ deal is up the cap should be up and over $100 million hence why he took the short term deal.

That’s not true unless it’s a new thing. It jumped 14.32% in June of 2007. They’re also predicting a jump higher than 5% in 2025-26.
