To be fair, the leafs are a great example of selling the future to make the playoffs. This type of management isn’t built for sustained success or long term growth. It’s wam bam thank you man thinking when I prefer to make the bed rock all night with the rocket.
KA is setting us up to have the long term sex fest with the 10 rather than a one night stand with a bush pig from Lockport.
Even if it doesn’t work out, it is a prudent move. Not everyone wants to get VD from the tramp. - Da_Cashman
What are you talking about the leafs have made the playoffs what 5 years in a row now?
And the same Bills fan will tell you losing 4 straight Super Bowls and “13 Seconds” were huge heart breaks too.
I challenge any Bills fan to say this year is a success with anything less then winning the Lamar Hunt trophy at the very least - Swedish_Jesus
No it won't be, but atleast I am still watching my Team in the playoffs with a chance. I don't think the Sabres are successful either without a Cup. But the expectations are certainly lower for me that the Sabres have any chance of that. Gotta start somewhere and playoff hockey is it.

The expectations will start to rise for the Sabres also.
The conversation will shift from the drought, ti making it past the first round, to how many banners we have in the rafters.
And once the Sabres are a cup contender I’m not going to be happy if we get swept in round 1 and to me it will be a failure.
If you guys want to have a jerk circle over it be my guest.

If you gave me the choice between winning a championship this year, and missing the playoffs for the next however many years (pick a number: 20? 30? 80?) versus making multiple championships over the same time period but you will never one, I am taking Option A without hesitation (It's admittedly a little disingenuous because you know the outcome already, but whatever).
However, while I'm firmly in the "Super Bowl or bust" camp, I recognize at the same time that the feeling that you have a team that is capable of winning it all is far better than knowing your team doesn't have a clue what it's doing. That was the case with the Bills from 2005 (JP Losman's first full season as a starter) up until 2017. It's the case for the Sabres pretty much since Pegula bought the team. I don't doubt his intentions (i.e. "cheap owner"), but pretty much every decision he has made has been the wrong one. Luckily for Bills fans, the NFL has a "just sign the checks and let the adults take care of the important matters" policy that the NHL doesn't, but I digress. If you can't have the championship, it's pretty dishonest to say that apathy/incompetence is on the same level as being a contender.

I've lived through all 5 (granted I was a toddler for the first 4) and I can confidently say I would take any heartbreaking loss over the irrelevance that was the drought.
Better to have loved and lost yada yada. I'll take the '05-'07 Sabres over the next 15 years and it's not close

The Broncos have the second largest playoff drought in the NFL current day.
Yet, I can tell you where I was, what I was wearing, how many beers I drank, and how pissed off I was when I was at the SB party when they lost to the Seahawks 43-8 back in February 2014.
The godfather of my son (ironically a Bills fan) bought a Seahawks cake as a joke prior to the game which I’ve only begun to laugh at recently.
I can remember where I was when Flacco threw the Hail Mary to upset the Broncos in 2012 and win a game they had no business winning if the Free Safety just made a routine knockdown. The Ravens won the Super Bowl that year. My uncle had a huge party and his neighbours showed up and we had no idea they were Ravens fans.
I’m fortunate the Orange Crush carried that broken down Peyton to a ring in 2015, Or else those two losses would haunt me even more then they already do.
This 7 year playoff drought is whatever to me, doesn’t bother me much at all.
I hope Bills Mafia has something to hang their hat on when this era of Bills football runs its course, and that the highlight of it isn’t 13 seconds and that Josh Allen doesn’t become synonymous with Phillip Rivers or Matt Ryan for that matter.
“The Ducks are being choosy [with Zegras]? They want to break it? I heard there's a team looking that way and it's the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabers have to make the playoffs this year and you solve your problem by bringing Zegras,” the journalist told JiC.”

Thoughts?
That whether it’s Zegras, or someone else, Adams and the front office are going to make a move to get this team where it needs to go.
