Yeah see above
these questions won't go away.
you'd think they maybe do something with skinner before his contract is up. olofsson is obviously gone. does the greenway role stay or is he swapped out with a skill prospect? Do Krebs and Jost get the boot (someday) for Kozak and Ostlund?
Sabres also like having older vets guiding this team. So maybe you're taking away a bottom 6 and bottom 4 spot from a kid too. - TheSabresTaco
Conversely, Mittelstadt would be their highest quality NHL asset to move in order to shore up the RHD position long term, and they have a litany of replacement options coming for him.
Would be one of the very few times the Sabres ever sold high on a player. |

Projecting out 3 years
Benson-Thompson-Quinn
Savoie-Cozens-Tuch
Rosen-Mittelstadt-Kulich
Peterka-Kozak-Rousek
Skinner? Krebs? Ostlund? Poltapov, Kisakov, Neuchev? 2024 1st round pick?
This team has a Randy Marsh sized log. - TheSabresTaco
Prediction: Savoie will have been traded within the next 2-3 seasons to help improve an area of need long term. |
|
|
|
I mean sure, there's infinite realities.
But not in this one. If his entire season is how he started last season, then I think it's possible. Outside of that, no. - TheSabresTaco
If Mitts spends the bulk of the season at 3LW, somethings going to have to give.
Can't have Skinner, Tuch, Quinn, JJ, Mitts, and Greenway all back as top 9 wingers.

Yeah, there's that. Being skill-versatile makes him high value inside and outside the org. I think it would pain them to trade him, especially if he ascends this year.
Brandon Carlo for Casey Mittelstadt could make some sense. Probably not a popular move though.

Also curious what his celery demands are, but you look at all of the ELC that will flood this team down the line, I'm not too sure they will care if he's under 7M. I think he gets a Yanni Gourde contract. - TheSabresTaco
All those ELC's will help keep the window open longer. Still a lot of pieces to try and fit when 80% of the puzzle pieces are probably filled. They will have there hands full in the next few years. |

I touched on this yesterday but it would be an incredible turn of events if Mittelstadt was ever traded before he signs a multi year deal. - TheSabresTaco
to the Islanders for Pageau
big upgrade on pk and a solid 2 way player
Islanders looking to move him for a younger winger
Casey can play wing |

I can definitely see this happening.
Will come down to his contract demands imo.

Next summer, Rosen, Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund, and Benson should all be fighting for roster spots. You can't say you aren't going to block prospects and have 1 open top 9 spot. Krebs should be fighting for a top 9 spot as well.
They have to do something next summer.

flip side
if they finally make the playoffs this season, I doubt we see a 33 percent flip in the top 9 next season

Based on the track record of the current management, you already know how the above is going to go next offseason. |

Going to look back at this 3 year span and wonder why they were unwilling to spend money or deal prospects to improve.

adding greenway shocked me for the top 9
I kind of got it if they let the all star walk and penciled him in for the 4th line |

Mitts has to keep growing, he has ended the last few years extremely hot. Disappeared in the first couple months both years though. He needs another Solid year. Krebs I really don't know about, if they think he is no more than a 4C here, then maybe they should move him. They have other less players that can do that. Try and get some Value out of him. Sabres have a lot coming and it's a good problem to have. But you can't slow play them for ever. They will lose value over time if they aren't a piece to your puzzle. |

Mitts success, is donnie the center whisperer related in my opinion.
Sell high candidate for sure. |

If they play it poorly, they could sell low on everyone or worse. Bryson looks like the next vanish into obscurity. VO likely walks for nothing. |

It is stuff that needs to be thoroughly thought about, especially the players drafted higher. |

The expectation of all their recent 1st rounders is higher than Mitts, no question there.

Why did Adams and company draft 407 centers? Makes absolutely no sense.
Jost and Krebs are keepers too now I suppose.
