Then you don't get him this summer and the price goes up.
If you want to sign a 20 year old long term after one season, you're paying for potential, not current play. - Lunaion
Does his potential outweigh Sanderson's? I understand Power could flip with him eventually, but as far as comps go (which do get factored for contracts), that's the benchmark now, no?

He's a #1 coming off a strong rookie season. Sanderson wasn't in the NHL at the same point. He's a comp, but a notch lower.
Like I pointed out, Ekblad's deal is 8.6m today. That's the benchmark. I think it's fair to say Power is a more highly regarded #1.
Love it or hate it, Dahlin's presumptive deal factors as a comp as well. It will likely buy more UFA years, but it's still a comp.
Not that I wouldn't mind a team friendly deal, but if you want to approach the kid after 1 year and treat him like anything less than a #1 OA, how do you get a deal done?

I agree, think your looking at 9.5mill Avv at 8yrs at this point if he decides to go long term. Or he could bridge it and just get better and set the Market himself down the road.

What happened to wanting to be here? Adams signed their 1C to a team friendly deal, why is this not an option for Dahlin or Power, do they not want to be there?
Gonna be a very interesting next few years to see how Adams and company deal with all the players coming up through the Organization. Evaluation will be at a premium. - Buff36
Is there anyway we can find out how many times buff has said this exact statement in the last year?
No lie it has to be close to 100 times.
There were better conversations when we s*cked ass and girgs was our 1C

I can get that the 1OA selection and being 1 year younger will help, but not sure it will be that much. At what price do you trade him? This would be assuming you keep Dahlin long term, if he's going we are going to be forced to pony up.
