I’m okay for a trade so long as the return is an upgrade to something they need or hopefully not this, but making up for a serious injury to another core piece.
Also both Marner and JT will get resigned, just in different directions, Marner up and JT down to somewhere around $5-6mill (about where Malkin is currently). He’s the captain of the team and he’s about to hit 1000 points. I swear only in Toronto would a PPG player be a disappointment lol. Honestly though, I’ll be surprised if he plays anywhere else in his career. - Dozzer
I wanted Tavares and am still happy to have him. As a second line center the salary isn't great but there really shouldn't be much issue as he still produces. like the goal...and I don't give a sh*t how it went in...that got us to the second in 20 whatever years. I'm 46 next month. I was in my 20s when they last won around. sad ..when you think about it. |

That’s kind of what I mean, unless it’s a deal giving the leafs precisely what they need, as it stands a true top end shut down d man, then just keep Willie, better to have him than some meh guys when the team considers itself contenders. - Dozzer
completely agree. it has to be the right deal or (frank) it. |

Tavares' problem as a disappointment is pretty easy to see.
It's been expectations and being boring. He's literally the most competent hockey player around. He produces like he's a star, has no personality, never does anything special, just produces consistently.
A plank of wood who scores 25-40g and 70-85p a year with nobody noticing.
Hence, he is Sundin, with less flair. His issue is that he has the unfortunate problem of signing a deal every team would sign him to at the time and now it looks bad. - AdamFrench
Sadly covid obliterating the cap flat didnt help.
btw screenshot your post to my guys whatsapp chat. bang (frank)ing on. didn't take credit it just said i got it from a hockeybuzz poster lol. |

For me a big question is whether they have better options next summer using the Nylander $ or now through a trade. In some ways they may be better off waiting as it becomes clearer who stays from the current D group and how much $ they to play with and what needs to be done( re-sign Sammy and Bert, replace Brodie, figure out what the hell they with Klinberg, Liljegren, etc) - Canada Cup
Yeah I think that too, let’s see Nylander’s upcoming season before giving him a long term expensive contract. He’s only had this PPG seasons 2x now, wouldn’t mind seeing a third one before giving him a large amount of cash. I’m guessing since he’ll be 28 to start the next contract he’s going to want longer term at the higher price, is he someone worth handing that over to? Tough call, but him being basically a PPG 3x helps out a bit. |

I don’t care about a single European on the Leafs.
Klingberg if he regains form, maybe.
They need a spicy euro.. |

You and I are both 77’ babies then… I hit 46 Aug 30th so I know how you’re feeling there.
I agree tho, JT is a touch overpaid but like I said, I can see his next contract being roughly half of what he’s currently getting and if he’s still the same bloody player or close to it I’m fine with that. |

Yup unless they’re getting something at least on par with a 80-90P winger just roll with the winger. |

Why do you keep typing Eh? Are you Bob or Doug Mackenzie? - jribout
Oh I don’t know man - not the most schooled guy you know. Made a livin playing bit reading. I kinda just type what I’m thinking. Typing how I would be talking in person.
I didn’t know thy was something that was a big enough deal for folks to feel the need and post a comment regarding my use of it. Sorry buddy. Meant no harm from it. I’ve been chirped for using the hyphen in here and saying ‘you know’ as well. Folks are strict with the typing man…I’ve avoided eh 3 times in what I just typed, wanted to type it but didn’t.
I do love Bob & Doug though all day! Beauties. |

October 11 1977 😍
I hope he even wants to stay cause the market can be cruel if his game starts really dropping off. I'm sure he knows that.

Bob and Doug are more than fine! We actually have an old album here with not only theirs, but all of SCTV’s autographs. Rick and Dave signed the album as Bob and Doug on the cover and the rest of the cast, including John Candy, signed their personal signatures on photos of themselves!
Pretty cool eh? |

I’m willing to bet he loves the leafs so much he’ll only be taking 1-2 year deals allowing him to lower his price routinely giving his coach a bigger desire and willingness to give him bottom 6 rolls.
And excellent birthday my gf, who deserves far better than me lol, has us both beat, June 13th 1977. |

Talked to my neurologist and found out they’re likely going to upgrade my nervous system with stainless steel cabling (only been around since 2017 and apparently is working extremely well, called a Vagus) and my gf took me out on the 28th, had my most recent seizure on the 29th, and did my actual b day at mom’s and she made us steak and seafood Alfredo pasta. Was supposed to start a new med on my b day as well but my neurologist forgot to submit some form needed for it to be free and the pharmacist told me she was already reaching out and expects to have it sorted in a week unless I want to pay hundreds for the new med. I was happy to hold off changing for roughly a week since I still have a month worth of my current meds I’ve been on since 2020. That and she said she’ll happily give me more of those for free if it takes longer than that but she doesn’t think it will.
So it was an interesting week but I’ve enjoyed some beers, bbq’d some steak, and a puff or two so I’m happy with it. |

Not necessarily, the leafs have a $9 mill 90P guy for less than $7. Are they after the cup this year more than the following ones? My guess is yes and if it’s true taking the risk of him walking is the best choice. - Dozzer
This year is no more important than previous years or the next few years. Imo
But letting a 90pt player walk for nothing could hurt upcoming years. Pieces that the leafs could get could positively impact next year or the years after.
We've had willie, and no real cup run the past 7 years (not his fault) but I dont think moving him out hurts this year too much.
If theres a trade to be made...do it.
I know tree wont let him walk for nothing. Even if its a sign and trade after the season is over.
We'll see though.
I just completed Nine Perfect Strangers....interesting little series. |

I’ve never watched that, is it worth it then?
As for Nylander I hope it’s simpler, either get something that’s on par with him or keep him and risk losing him. That’s my preference anyways. I mean the risk is worth it if he increases their chance at success after the deadline. So if the return isn’t as valuable as him hold off and do the sign and trade after the season you’re mentioning. |

Found the 5 year comparison:
- Dozzer
Jt is great.
I dont give a (frank) about this "boring" bs. The consistency is what matters to me. We all knew the final two years of his deal would hurt, we just thought wed have a cup by now and /or the cap would be much higher that it wouldn't matter.
Still have two more years for both to happen. |
