Not until late Sept and those are split squad games to start - Sept. 24th/25th home and away vs Ottawa & their 8x8 million dollar d-man who has a whopping 77 NHL games on his resume.

If Toronto had signed a player with the same #'s as Sanderson to the same contract it would be front page news about what a terrible contract it was etc. etc. etc.

It really just proves nobody really cares about Ottawa except the handful of Ottawa fans who have the ultimate littlest brother of a bunch of boys syndrome when it comes to the Leafs, Habs, Oilers etc. lol.

This feels like a troll post

But I'll say that NFL is the 2nd most entertaining team sport after the NHL, easily

- TheMussel

Not at all but you do need to record the game and ff through the BS
I can watch a game in less than 1 hrđź‘Ť

Sens are following the same path as NJ Devils. They want to lock in all their elite young talent through to age 30 on reasonable long term deals. Folks are not saying much about the signing of Sanderson (#5 overall 2020 draft). I think some got burned by their negative reaction last year when Stutzle (#3 2020 draft) signed a very similar deal. Maybe it was the same commentators who said Sens overpaid for Tkachuk two summers ago and Chabot 3 summer ago.

Ok who said Beetlejuice 3 times?

Super hot take there, you are bang on the Ottawa Senators are the franchise all other NHL teams should model their player / asset management strategy after - it's clear they are the best of the best simply by the nature of all their recent success

Guy across the street coached him all through minor hockey. He said he wanted to kill himself watching the Leaf series against the Habs when Anderson went off.
- Canada Cup

No kidding - he started the skill sets! It was his fault…where did he play minor hockey? I know he’s obviously a Toronto kid so the MTHL I’m assuming. Or whatever it’s called now.

Well there's a reason he's an overpaid 3rd liner and not a star. If everybody could be a consistent power forward, they would be Iginla etc. Most are just hit/miss year to year players.
- AdamFrench

Consistency and speed of the game are the 2 hardest things to get goin coming from Jr into any pro league let alone the National League

Leafs missed playoffs 10 out of 11 seasons before making playoffs. They have had a really nice regular season run ever since. However, struggles in the playoffs can be directly correlated to the issues of team depth. Leafs pay their top 6 skaters 65% of cap. NJ Devils, the kids to catch, are paying 54% of cap to their top 6. Leafs have, maybe 2 or 3 years left in their window at an elite contenders. It is urgent they need to find an answer to their playoff depth challenges.

No. Stats are pretty firm. Most elite players achieve peak performance level in the 24-28 age range. Not many exceptions (like Joe Pavelski). A teams success is often conditioned by their being able to take advantage of their competitive window.

Washington and Pittsburgh have great rosters. Not that far removed from Stanley Cup contention. The only change from elite status to non playoff status is age.

Two guys grow up together but after college one moves to NY other to California. Every ten years they agree to meet in Chicago and play golf. They finish their round at age 32 and go to lunch.

“Where you wanna go?” “Hooters.” “Why?” “Well, you know, they got the girls, with the low cut tops, and the tight shorts. The legs…” “OK.”

Ten years later at 42, they play.

“Where you wanna go?” “Hooters.” “Why?” “Well, you know, they got cold beer and the big screen TVs and everybody has a little action on the games.” “OK.”

Ten years later at 52,

“Where you wanna go?” “Hooters.” “Why?” “The food is good and there is plenty of parking.” ”OK.”

At 62,

“Where you wanna go?” “Hooters.” “Why?” “Wings are half price.” “OK”

At 72,

“Where you wanna go?” “Hooters.” “Why?” “They have 6 handicapped spaces right by the door.” “OK.”

At 82,

"Where do you wanna go?" "Hooters." "Why?" "We've never been there before and I would like to try something new."

Nobody does summer talk better than Leaf fans. I am an avid lurker. Some of the discussions are highly entertaining and almost always hockey wise.

How old was Ovechkin when he won the cup again? How old was Crosby when he won his last?

Leafs are still looking like contenders for years if they don't make mistakes surrounding their core.

It's laughable how delicate and fragile you are if anyone dares to make a negative comment about the Sens never mind a factual one.

Since you are speaking facts and #'s here are some for you:

Sens have missed the playoffs 8 of the past 10 years.

The Sens have made the playoffs 16 of their 30 years of existence (53%)
The Leafs have made the playoffs 72 of 105 years of existence. (69%)

Leafs have 13 cups
Sens have a whopping zero

Sens have made the playoffs twice in the past decade.
Leafs have made the playoffs 7 times in the past decade.

Facts don't care about your feelings.

Comparing the Kanta Hens to the Leafs is just so far from apples to apples it's almost as funny as your super hot takes about the Leafs, thanks for the chuckle.

I do kinda' get it though, it's easier to be a fan of the team that loses a lot with uber low expectations than a perennial contending team. Leafs fans went through it and are well past those times.

Enjoy watching the Sens likely missing the playoffs yet again for the 7th season in a row.

Huh.

Most players are not Matthews or Marner.

Yawn. You would have said the same thing about TB when they had their couple runs.

You are just wishing things to be true to help you sleep at night.
