Willie will be traded if the talent that comes in fills some needs and if he is not willing to come off his ridiculous apparent ask of 10m+.
Or there will be a sign and trade in the off season.
He wont walk for free unless the leafs win the cup at which point no one will care anyway - Fakepartofme
Disagree that he is traded in season. And for all we know he may walk end of season after being an own rental. Time will tell, nobody really knows at this point.
I’m also of the opinion 10M for what he brings to the table (if he has a similar season to last) is not ridiculous it’s probably close to or right at market value.
“Most” were not, it was an equal sized mod chanting we want Boston but the narrative of Leaf fans screwing it up is more appealing to some. - Cush29
The funny thing is that if Boston had won they would have just focused on the we want Boston chants and it would have been like the Florida chant never existed. Nature of the beast I guess.

This is true.
Everything is “bulletin board motivational material”! Lol
Side Note the Buffalo Bills were a tad “Leafy” last night. Woof!

Tree wont get biting again by a star player leaving for nothing. Im sure a structure of a trade is already in place or has already been discussed with a team...but it probably needs finessing and its a last resort move.
Normally you dont want to do an in season trade of this size, but if things fall in place concerning players coming back and willie continues to make foolish demands of 10m plus. He could be moved, no doubt about it.
Or its a sign and trade at seasons end but only if he doesn't extend.
Maybe he shocks everyone and signs a 2y x 9m deal hoping to bet on himself and the cap increasing. Maybe he hopes to get 11m per on next deal?
We'll see.

Umm Leafs fans had no impact on the outcome either way.
"Equal sized" lol....was there a headcount? - Fakepartofme
I never said it had an impact on the outcome of the series, the narrative is how stupid Leaf fans are etc. - of all people I would think you would get that.
There was video of the entire thing and the groups looked pretty close to equal but sure the sexier narrative is the one that paints Leaf fans in the most negative light.

10M for Nylander isn't foolish - many many teams would pay it and Toronto may.
I think you will be disappointed in the outcome of this saga when he either re signs with the Leafs for a salary that you think is too much / or they in fact use him as an own rental.
I think trading a player just to 'get something' vs using him as a rental if what you can get doesn't help you now when your contending is stupid. I'd gladly take a season of Nylander as a rental vs picks and prospects that won't help for 4 or 5 years.
I also don't believe Tree is worried about it if he does leave to the extent people think / that forces him to trade him for pennies on the dollar.
The concept of a star player "leaving for nothing" isn't exactly true, cap space is gained if he ends up as an own rental & there is huge value to cap space - especially for a team like Toronto.
As much as he's been labelled money hungry I think he really does want to stay in Toronto and will take SLIGHTLY less than what he could get in UFA to do so like Matthews did. It might be a shorter term deal but who really knows.
