Man i don't know if I can go back to being a rebuilding team when these crap poop prospects tournaments actually meant something. - systemtool
I suppose one way to look at it is that the light that comes through the window may vary from year-to-year, but the window is open for a surprisingly long time if you build it up from core prospects - in particular a game-changing top-tier player. I mean it's hard to define when a team's window actually is open, but let's say it's consistently posting about a .600 winning percentage and making the playoffs . . .
Just objectively, I think the Leafs with Matthews in front probably have 12ish years conservatively, barring stupid trades. We're entering year 7, so I like to think there's probably at least 6 more years, including this one, before the team, presuming the core largely remained together, starts to age out - Matthews will be 31, Marner will be 32, Nylander will be 33. . . it would probably fit in with a lot of other teams windows:
Washington - I'd say that the window is shut on them, and probably officially shut just last year; the year before they still had a puncher's chance, but probably 2020-21 (two seasons ago) was their last good season. They drafted Ovechkin in 2004, so they had 14 years in their window - since it took a couple for the team around Ovi to grow into a contender.
Pittsburgh - despite the desperate swing with Karlsson, I think their window is also closed. I don't like the idea of counting out Crosby, Malkin, Karlsson - but they are 36, 37 and 34, respectively. They drafted Crosby in 2005 and enjoyed 15 solid seasons until around 2020-21 when you could see the team start to falter.
Chicago - They had seemingly quick and fast success, they are almost the modern poster child for burning bright and burning out with out a window of only 9 years - and most of their pieces that led to the ultimate success were already in place, starting in 2002 with Keith, for a while before their final piece, Kane, was drafted in 2007.
Tampa - Much more bumpy than the above teams - with the addition of successive pieces - like Stamkos in 2008, Hedman in 2009, Kucherov in 2011 - but probably most effectively cemented by the drafting of Vasilevskiy in 2012 - it took Tampa some time to get this team, but I don't think their window is closed yet. It looks like it could be closing, but it's been 10 years and I think they are still in the mix for the cup and will be for at least a couple more years - Kucherov is 30, Point is 27, Vasilevskiy is 29
Colorado - This is a team that isn't particularly traditional - they drafted MacKinnon first overall in 2013 had great success in 2014, and then sucked again for a couple of years. You could make the case that despite drafting Rantanen in 2015, the key to their success has been Makar moreso than MacKinnon. I mean Makar was drafted in 2017 and that year the Avs started their 6 year streak of making the playoffs and being dangerous. What with MacKinnon being 28, Makar being 24, Rantanen being 26 - they also probably have several years left in their window. |

I’m not much of a beer snob, most cold beer generally works for me.
Bacon crispy - baked, fried whatever.
So for anyone in Eastern Ontario or driving past Colborne Ontario I stopped at the Big Apple and got a loaf of Apple Bread.
Toasted a slice with some butter tonight - unreal.
The bread has cinnamon in it and big ass chunks of apple and it’s so good.
Had some a few weeks ago where a friend made French toast with it and it was absolute heavenly.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I've never visited the Big Apple.
Drove by it a jillion times - never pulled off the 401.
Maybe this year.

Solid analysis. Can't say I disagree anywhere in particular. I would argue that Tampa currently has the best goaltender out of those teams. Goalies are voodoo, but any year that Vasilevskiy is dialed in, the Lightning are a threat.

They have booze there, and lots and lots of apple goodness. The restaurant food is m'eh but the apple (and other flavours) treats and pies are top shelf.
Plus if you have kids they have a small petting zoo

The one bandwagon I’m firmly planted on is the Colorado Buffaloes.
If they finish in the top four this year, NCAA football will be forever changed.
They will drop the bullpoop about it being about academia - it will be a pure for-profit league.
Hopefully 32 teams will rise to the top of an elite division.
And then we won’t have bullpoop like this weekend, where there isn’t a single matchup amongst ranked teams. |

This year its something different. The coach looks lost out there sometimes. Time for atkins to go.
Ah well.
Gotta go 11-4 the rest of the way.
