Supposedly Nate Schmidt showed up in tremendous shape. He must have sensed that there would be some steep competition from some of the younger crop of D and realized this summer that he needed to get super serious about his career going forward. Hard to see who will be in the fourth paring. My guess is the Declan Chisholm will be one of them and Stanley the other. Heinola will be a victim of his waiver status and will be back on the Moose and available for call-ups. I like Capobianco but he might become a waiver victim. - jetsnation
Schmidt has looked awful through two periods tonight. fighting with Bauer for worst jet. I've liked what I've seem from all the young ins thus far |

Ehlers is out with neck spasms already, lol. The coach is not worried that this is a long term issue….
He will play 50 to 55 games this year….. but the fans love him and he likes Wpg so a long term contract could entice him to stay….. 🤣🤣
I am being very facetious as it is hard to convey sarcastic tone in this forum……. - Old Flopper
Ehlers is the Jets best forward. Injury issues or not, you do whatever you have to to keep him. If he stays injury prone, he gets cheaper. I’d rather have a 70% chance he’s in the next “big game” than a 100% chance he isn’t. |

agree, we need to stop complaining about very good players who get a hurt more than we like and focus on bad players no one should want playing all the time. id take 60 games from Ehlers with 20 games from Harkins/Axel/a young moose sprinkled in over 80 games from Wheeler all day!!!!!!! |

Was at the game Monday v Oil (who didn't really have "anyone" playing) ... Vilardi looked locked n loaded ... Scheifs was doggin it ... and what about Stanley ? poor showing ... Brossoit strong in net with not a ton of action (great that Chevy picked him back up) ... will be watchin TSN3 tonight v Flames
.
Without extensions we are in deep poop w Helle & Scheifs ... how do we trade them at deadline if we're in playoff position ?

Without extensions, H and S need to be dealt, and the sooner the better. Maybe by U.S. Thanksgiving? We CANNOT let them walk for nothing!!!
When I see Capobianco out there on PP, got to believe they are showcasing him, if others haven't seen him by now, hoping someone wants him.
Think Salomonsson needs to go back to Sweden, bulk up, and then he will be a Jet for a long time, hopefully.
Believe that Vilardi, Iafallo and the under-the-radar Kupari are great additions to team. Wish we could have signed Vilardi long-term. In small markets (like Ottawa and Buffalo for example), got to gamble on young players. Not sure Chevy believes in that. |

Vilardi is in the same boat as Helle and Scheif in a way. He likely didn’t want to go long term if the team is gonna tank |

Heinola looks much improved over last year. His quickness in and around the puck is very noticeable. Very good decision-making. Improved strength and positioning. I think he has shown more than enough in camp to this point to be a starter on opening night if it were not for his waiver-exempt status.
Stanley has shown me nothing . Chisholm not much so far. Heinola has the potential to be a dominant player going forward. |

Ville definitely looked good last night. Like you say, much improved over past performances. If management feel he has the muscle to compete, he makes the team, if not at the start then they will make a spot for him later IMO.
Jets have some major decisions to make. On D - ? - let's see we have JoMo, Dillon, Samberg, DeMelo and ......???? |

I'm not sure in the Jets world it happens, but Ville in the top 6 really should happen. I think if it could be done without pissing off J-Mo, I'd have Heinola QB PP1 immediately. He just makes the right passes on the money, loves to be in motion trying to create opportunities. |

This is where I would normally tweet the gif of Thanos adding the last Infinity Stone to his fancy glove.

The reality of the situation is that Stanley, Chisholm, or Capo get the 7th D spot but the odds are that with 7 Dmen there will be lots of injuries, whether day-to-day or possibly longer term. The minute that happens Heinola gets the nod to fill in. Its really the only way but I would expect Ville will get to play 40-50 games anyway.

Waive Capo and Stanley, keep Gus, Ville, and Chisholm |

My guess is they waive Capo, re-assign Heinola (briefly) and keep Stanley and Chisholm at #7 and #8 |

The Ford kid had a good showing, as did Kupari. Ford has a motor that keeps him driving, digging, not afraid of the dirty areas.....I like what he brings. I can't see GUS ahead of either of those two if they continue to play the way they have so far.
Heinola definitely has also shown well. Noticeably Stronger handling the opposition, looking good for Ville. Not sure if he is ready to qback the #1 pp and not sure how he gets elevated to that position..... but he has beefed up and looks determined. |

Gus has to be waived. Ford does not. I have a feeling Ford will be call up #1 as they let him adjust to the pro level |

Heinola is not going to take Morrissey's place on the #1 PP.
Let's see how Heinola does against real NHL competition, before we get ahead of ourselves.
Not only Kupari over Gus, but Harkins also.

Yeah, that bad turnover did him in. Can't believe that Viel is still around.

The Jets line up is pretty well set isn't it?
Connor-Scheif-Vilardi
Ehlers-Perfetti-NN
Iafallo-Lowry-Appleton
Barron-Kupari-Nammy
-Gustafsson
JoMo-DeMelo
Dillon-Piok
Samberg-Schmidt
-Chisholm
- Stanley
Waive :
AJF
Capobianco
- If Jets figure Heinola is ready (I do), maybe try and move either Pionkm Schmidt, Chisholm or Stanley
- If Ehlers starts on IR, promote Iafallo, and add Gustafsson, keep Viel till Ehlers returns (should he not be ready, and his injury scares me)
- If Perfetti falters, always could try Kupari in his spot, move Perfetti back to wing
Few decisions to make, but not many! |

At this point, it’s pretty clear Heinola needs to be in the starting 6. Waiving Stanley, sitting Schmidt to start, and keeping Chisholm is also pretty clear.
Stanley won’t be claimed at his cap hit, and the added weight seems to have robbed even more of his skating. |

I think Stanley would be claimed in a second. Lot of teams would want to take a look at least IMO. His cap hit is not high.
But, yes, I hear what you're saying. |
