I know it's equal footing for all teams, but 24 seems old for a "prospect" to me.

It's almost like young AHLers and College FAs are there just to fill the roster and get a look for an AHL/ECHL contract.

Yeah, I mean, does the top 6 have to be totally set in stone already? hahah...when Jake gets back can Rust, Rak or Rielly trickle down to the 3rd if one of the new additions can keep up and hold their own in the top 6? will anything different even be tried?

The answers to all of this, and more, coming up in less than a month....

I think the question is what does moving say Rust down to a third line do? Can he elevate that line? Or are you just wasting a possible wing for Geno?

I would personally put Accari as the 3c and Eller the 4c if we're trying to make a third scoring line and a 4th defensive line. I would try this in preseason:
Poulin-Accari-Nylander
Doc-Eller-Nieto.
If Poulin can play C then I'm trying him there as well.

WBS seems to think Poulin is better at C. Either he's better their or was just more comfortable in general at the AHL level because the second half of his year was much better than the first.

Question: why is Poulin at 22 always listed as a make or break player but Puustinen, 24, isn't? Is it just because Poulin is a first rounder? He didn't even really have an age 21 season.

Both are in their last year of waiver eligibility, so I think they should probably both push for spots by the end of the year. But Puustinen's last year he was three years older than Poulin's last full year and he hasn't forced his way into serious job contention yet either.

I understand but disagree on Poulin, actually more curious about Puustinen. As someone just said above, 24 is pretty old to still be considered a prospect.

Rust is a great compliment to the top 6. He isn't talented enough to carry a 3rd line though. It takes more away from the top 6 than it adds to the bottom 6.

Yea I guess Pust is more break or make, I think if Poulin played last year this would actually be a make or break season.

How long are these kids going to college, 6 years? And that would be a (North American) AHLer entering his 4th year. Not what I'd call a prospect.

Go to a private high school that holds you back a year (had friends who did this for some reason), enter college at 19, get red shirted as a freshman, then play 4 full years and graduate at 24.

Which Rust are we talking about? The play driving Rust from 2 years ago or the snake bitten Rust from last year?

I wasn't focused on Rust when I made this comment tbh. I dont think we have another winger that can jump into the top 6 and replicate his production. Puustinen might survive in the same way Simon did with Sid and Jake, but that's more than a long shot. Rust is still best served in the top 6 IMO.

You should just ask "do the Pens have ANY prospects"? And the answer would be a big fat ass "NO"!!

Tatar to Colorado! As Mick Jagger once said "You can't always get what you want"! The rich get richer.

Well when you’re so amazingly great for such an astonishing long time complete with high end talent and future hall of famers the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Flower it’s pretty hard to keep the prospect pool deep.

Yea you're right we did get Karlsson. And we are all well aware that our prospect depth is terrible and we don't have a superstar prospect in sight. We might have a couple middle 6 guys but that's about it.

At least the penguins prospects aren’t going to chill in Russia and force a trade.
