Do the Pens have any prospects who are like pests or tough? - Grinder47
I think Gruden is a bit of a pest. I would like to see him make the fourth line. A young, speedy pest fighting for a job. |

Here are when some of the more notable forwards under Sullivan broke into the league.
Guentzel: halfway thru his age 22 season. Probably could have made it sooner had he turned pro a year earlier. Was an immediate top 6 scorer
Rust: started getting call ups with 14 games in his age 22 season. Became a regular halfway through his age 23 season establishing himself immediately as a middle six player. Became a top six scorer as a late bloomer in his age 27 season.
Sherry: broke in halfway thru his age 23 season. Has had a nice career as a middle six forward.
Blueger: ultimate late bloomer started establishing himself as a regular in the last third of his age 24 season. Has had a decent career as a fourth line center so he isn't a bust. But a little disappointing as a second rounder drafted for skill.
Poulin: entering age 22 season. Got a three game call up last year before he left the team for most of his age 21 season for mental health reasons. Needs to show he's overcome that, but I'd like to see him have a season at least like Rust's this year to say he's on track if not forcing his way on like Guentzel did at the same age.
Puustinen: entering age 24 season. Played one game while they rested players in his age 22 season, did not receive a call up last year. (DOC, Nylander, Poulin, and Gruden all played multiple games with DOC establishing himself on the NHL roster.) I feel even more than Poulin he needs to start forcing his way into the roster this year. Pens brought in a lot of similar skill type players in Nylander, Pitlick, Johansson, Hinostroza, but he'll have to start beating most of not all out if he wants to play on the NHL. |

I have a good feeling about Poulin this year. |

Saw on Twitter/X,β what if Yager plates in for Guentzel during the 5 games then return to juniors?β
If a player plays in over 9 NHL games, is he no longer eligible for junior? I would entertain the idea of burning an ELC year to develop in AHL rather than going back to juniors |

Jagger Joshua, who played seven games with WBS last year after finishing his season at Michigan State, has been a presence. He's set the tone with his physicality, and just chirped the entire Senators bench after leaving the penalty box.
Joshua then almost scored on his next shift; got into a scrum at the net; and chirped Ottawa's bench again as he came off π love this kid
WBS Head Coach J.D. Forrest on Jagger Joshua: "That's what he does. He plays with an edge. He's not shy out there, and he brings a type of juice to the bench and different type of swagger - and you love to see it."
YOU REALLY DO

It NHL or juniors for Yager. 10 games burns a year and gets him to a new contract sooner. Not eligible to go to the AHL due to the NHL-CHL agreement |

Sounds like the typical 24 year old college free agent running around like an idiot in a prospects tournament. |

Like Feds said, he can't go to the AHL. If he played past 9 games, I believe you burn a year, but then you still send him back to juniors. If he could earn it, no harm giving him a shot at Guentzel's spot for a few games. |

Right, if we're going to "burn" a year he better be able to play on the third line for scoring help. It just doesn't make sense to play a junior over 9 then send him back. But no harm in trying. |

Aside from the fact that he's not eligible for the AHL, it's a fine idea.
That said, give him a shot to make the team out of camp and if he makes it, he plays. |

Prospect Tournament season is interesting.
You got this guy getting excited about a 24 year old plug and then on the other side of things wings fans now think all their prospects suck because they lost a couple games. |

I'm not talking making out of camp. He could be mid season call up. I like what I'm hearing, but I wanna see what he does in the A first. But future NHL bottom 6. |

As PHN covered the first informal workouts last week, Carter struggled in one of the agility drills. Stopping at the blue line and accelerating to the red line and back to the blue line seemed more difficult than it should have been. We attributed that to off-season rustiness, but it is something to watch. Otherwise, Carter must be a part of the Penguins lineup because they cannot afford to replace him.
Hereβs your daily dose of Carter |
