Guess I missed most of the shenanigans on here today. I actually hate cancel culture, but I don't think the situation with Babcock fits that description. Perhaps he really meant no harm, but how about just doing player interviews when getting to know your players? It seems these days that no one wants to just sit down and chat to get to know people. As I've said from the beginning, where there is smoke there is fire and this guy has a past that can't be ignored. I know there are many (a few?) folks on here that don't like Torts, but one thing you have to say is that many of the players that have played for him have his back. I don't know if I've ever heard of a player coming out in support of Babcock and for a guy that's been around as much as he has that is pretty damning evidence that he is a douche. Thanks!

Being a “tough love” coach and violating HR protocol are, in my mind, so obviously easy to separate. Babcock blew it. He should be embarrassed. You guys think Torts is bad lol..

Did Babcock ask to see photos of his family on the phone or did he take their phones and start scrolling? How do you become a “tough love” coach if you haven’t started coaching yet? Sins from the passed is not a reason to lose your job, otherwise why hire him to begin with?

Initially I thought Babcock was bing unfairly cancelled but after hearing the facts, it does seem quite odd for someone in authority to ask someone to show photos from their phone. It's one thing if the player said: "Hey, want to see pictures of my family or the cool vacation we just had over the summer?", but it's entirely different when a coach says: "hey let me see the photos on your phone", if that is what happened. In the end the entire episode is bizaar!

Anyway, see you all when the season starts ...

Columbus may have thought that Babcock learned his lesson after what he did to Marner and then losing his job. Asking players to share their phones is not new to Babcock, he did the same thing in Toronto.

Some players like Johnny Hockey and Jenner had no issues with Babcock, they could or could not be telling the truth.

I am sure we will never know the complete story.

The question I have is why didn't the GM of the team have an issue with it before the story broke publicly?

I just read that someone on this board after hearing all the facts knows exactly what is going on. I agree we may never know exactly what the complete store is. Which player tipped Spitting Chiclets off. If you listen to their podcast that started it all, it’s basically gossip. Women gossip and apparently so does that podcast because they took a pretty deep dive into something they weren’t sure of themselves.

I’m reading right and wrong arguments on this page yesterday. Nobody can be right or wrong until we know exactly what happened.

Babcock did the same thing to the gm...asked to see pics on his phone, which the gm had no issue with.

Maybe the GM listened to Johnny Hockey and Jenner who said they had no issues and thought nothing of it or he turned a blind eye.

The GM took part in the sharing of family photos with Babcock. He said he had no issue with it.

How many saw the press conference from the jackets? Like…what a disingenuous waste of everyone’s time. They’re clearly reading everything they’re saying. The whole situation is dumb and to see how sensitive that organization is makes me hope they implode from the inside. They’re knew Babcock’s preparation before the hire.

I saw it. I was reminded of POWs reading prepared statements written by their captors.
