Doubtful

I was prepared to take my NHL loving daughter to multiple games, but was surprised she’s already been talking about going to games with her friends.
Without her, doubt I’m going.

I'll go watch some games

I don't even go to Leafs games (unless I'm given tickets), so I doubt I'll go to one of their games.

But I'll watch it on TV.

That's great. I'll probably catch a game in Ottawa, but I have 67's tickets and the Sens tickets are dirt cheap even if they're female genitalias and the drive sucks.

I have a hot take on gender and sports. My wife hates it and most people I tell it to think I am nuts.

In a nutshell, I don't think there should be men's and women's leagues. Let any gender compete for a spot on any team. Men and women both have their strong areas and weak areas. Everything would sort itself out. I think it's silly to have different leagues based on genitalia.

There I said it. I own it.

I heard a comedian say the same thing a few years back.

I'd consider it more if it cost less, for sure, but I also really (frank)ing hate going downtown.

Is it a fact that women on average don't like sports as much as men? It seems like it. The demographic studies seem to back that up. If that's true, then I wouldn't expect droves of women to run out and buy tickets to women's sports leagues. Lots of male non-athletes like sports. Not that many female non-athletes seem to care one way or the other.

Men like men stuff. Probably similar dynamics at work as porn. There are chicks who dig it, but it's mostly a men thing.

Equal pay only for equal revenue. Nobody is going to pay the best female hockey player in the world McDavid money because nobody watches those games. When the women's leagues start pulling in the kind of money the men's leagues do, then even out the salaries.

The real question is : if we as men love the sport so much, how come we don't support the players regardless of what junk they have between their legs? The sport is the sport, right? Or, does it only count as real sport when a sausage party is involved?

I think this is a terrible idea.

Men have a physical advantage in terms of getting to its peak.

Just marketing women leagues better is a good start, lets see where this new pro hockey league takes us.

The whole point is to market it better so more girls and young women get into the sport. It’s all about growing the game.

It won’t be successful right away, hopefully it grows at a good pace and more girls get into hockey.

It would grow the NHL too.

The guy believes every single conspiracy theory out there. Or at least, pretends to his audience that he does.

Funny how these guys will believe anything except women.

I don't know. Have you seen some of the women in Florida prisons? I bet there is an all-star center or linebacker waiting to break out.

I hope the women's league does well. I'll watch some games. But, I still think let's throw them all together on the ice and in the locker room. Would be entertaining as hell.

Nobody is going to pay the best female hockey player in the world McDavid money because the best woman in the sport couldn't be a PPG player in the 2nd tier U18 boys league of Alberta in her prime. When the women's leagues start pulling in the kind of money the men's leagues do, then even out the salaries.

There are always outliers.

Now show me the top of the "beefy scary" men in Florida prisons. My point is in every category athletic and physical ability is just not fairly attainable.

Why would young women want to get into a sport that they know they have to train and compete way more just to even have a chance to compete with the top of the class? This perspective would push away women wanting to get into the sport, not encourage.

Exactly. I didn't want to come right out and say it, but there you have it. And, that's a big part of why nobody should expect the women's league to pull in the same amount of revenue.

The people fighting for equal pay in sports are not using the same logic as equal pay in other fields. A female CEO can absolutely do just as good as a man, or better. Same for owners, general managers, and arguably coaches. But, unless it's 400lb Big Bertha from cellblock 8, I don't expect a female center in football to do anything except get steamrolled on every play.
