A ton of self-confidence and a good line of poop talk.

Notice, he didn't keep her for long.

But I heard he showered once a month. I feel icky if I don't shower every day.

There are always outliers.

Now show me the top of the "beefy scary" men in Florida prisons. My point is in every category athletic and physical ability is just not fairly attainable.

Why would young women want to get into a sport that they know they have to train and compete way more just to even have a chance to compete with the top of the class? This perspective would push away women wanting to get into the sport, not encourage.

- Santo_44

That's pretty much the sane counterpoint brought up by everyone else, including my wife.

Exactly. I didn't want to come right out and say it, but there you have it. And, that's a big part of why nobody should expect the women's league to pull in the same amount of revenue.

The people fighting for equal pay in sports are not using the same logic as equal pay in other fields. A female CEO can absolutely do just as good as a man, or better. Same for owners, general managers, and arguably coaches. But, unless it's 400lb Big Bertha from cellblock 8, I don't expect a female center in football to do anything except get steamrolled on every play.

- GalacticStone

Any fight for pay equity in sports will be based on economics. Tennis Grand Slam events provide equal prize money for men and women and the WTA has agreed to full equity in all events over the next 10 years.

The reason doesn’t have anything to do with whether women could beat men in tournaments but with the draw in the stands and on t.v. ratings

The thing is that this should be its own thing. Away from men's sport and bonus-holely it's own. Women will pick it up, the problem is the starting place and this notion of it being akin to the NHL. It just isn't, but this league isn't marketing itself as that. It's basically the local competition for University Sport, Low Tier Sport Leagues like Athletico Ottawa, CHL/USHL/High School (in the States) product and I think it can find a place there.

As Adam French said Hailey showed us that even the best Woman hockey player just can't compete

But marketing the game and changing the perspective that this is a "mans" sport should be the goal here. Getting womens hockey to grow and have 20 Hailey Wickenhiesers at a time playing would be a success.

Umm, no one is expecting the womens hockey league to pull in the same amount of revenue as the nhl. Thats foolish
But it can be a viable product and make money

1. Provide opportunities for girls at the local level for house league and rep level hockey.
2. Let girls see hockey being played by women at a high level. Right now it’s really just Olympics and World Championships. Having a successful women’s league will encourage girls to get into the game and skilled young women to stay and progress.

it’s also the same reason why football and basketball players are paid a lot more then nhl players. McDavid should be getting paid a lot more.

full on agree. but the revenue isn't the same and at the money he's making its not like he's cashing cfl cheques. with endorsements he's still cashing in at a far greater rate than almost all his peers.

Basketball has a lot less players....but those guys are drastically overpaid.
More players in football but revenue stream is insane.
For a sport thats 4th or 5th in north America, McDavid is paid fine.

I get that, I’m just saying that it doesn’t matter if your male or female you get paid on how much your league takes in in revenue.

It’s crazy to see not even top 20 players in nba or nfl getting paid a lot more than McDavid. McDavid is far and above the next closest nhl player but he’s still never going to be paid 40-50 million a year.

Realistically nhl sucks at marketing their product. I saw the phoenix suns are taking there games off of cable tv so they grow their fanbase and product.

It’s not a question of being overpaid. NBA is a star driven league whereas most NFL players are interchangeable. The NFL went a full season with replacement players which could never happen in the NBA.

As a result, the power structure between players and owners is very different. NFL revenues are double that of the NBA but basketball players make twice as much. (Yes more players per team in football.)
