Im not wrong.
3 of the 4.25 seasons babs was here, he had great reg seasons...he has the 5th highest wins of any coach in leafs history.
You think the last 24 games deter from the above.
It doesn't
Moving on. - Fakepartofme
you said any coach could do what Keefe does every season.
babs did not and got fired for it.

why are the jays worse at home?
the stadium changes hurt that much?

Kane has mentioned he wants to play with matthews.
We see how things turn out when he's healthy.
First i want to see how this team plays as is, maybe they dont Kane.
We'll see - Fakepartofme
Did he? Like, in a serious way, or just saying that Matthews is great and would like to play with him? |

For sure.
Just know that Keefe loves the idea of Nylander at C because he likes not putting the best line together. And if Matthews and Nylander are both playing C, he's got a built in excuse. - GreatGigInTheSky
Treliving wants Nylander at C.
This is not a Keefe thing. |

If Willy is playing C you could guarantee Kane a long run with Matthews.
Would likely be getting PP2 time so you'd need to entice him somehow. |

Yeah, I read that.
I'm saying Keefe is a fan of the idea because he likes not putting Nylander with Matthews. So the proposal works out with his ideals. |

Babs did it. Except for 24 games when the players hated him. The first season was a tank season, so that hasnt been included. So that leaves 3.25 seasons of coaching...3 of which they had good records.
Ya any decent coach could have a similar record to keefe over the past few seasons. Thats not a shot against keefe, hes fine. |

Ya i think it was something along the lines of what you just said.
Just that it would be great to play with him.
Not that he wants to sign with leafs to play with matthews. |

If Kane is the actual goal here for Nylander being C, then it could make sense, for sure.
I assume-
Bertuzzi - Matthews - Kane
Tavares - Nylander - Marner
Knies - Domi - Jarnkrok
Decent top 3 lines, that's for sure. Either trade Jarnkrok or 4th line him if Robertson is healthy and can play RW. |

I think its more likely JT sticks at C and Nylander is on an all offence 3rd line with Domi and Knies or something.
Regardless, if Kane has Toronto on his list I would for sure punt some money to next years cap to make it work.
Give him some guaranteed bonus money(needs to score 1 goal or something)
Then some more performance bonuses on something legit for motivation.
Krejci received 1M plus 2M in performance bonuses...I think thats a fair starting point. Maybe you go up to 3M. |

Anyone remember the deadline for signing guys to be eligible to compete in the season?
IIRC, we signed Willy with 2 minutes to go before he became ineligible.
It's going to be weird with Kane.
Surgery June 2.
Estimated recovery time: 4-6 months
And he turns 35 on November 19th.
Coming off hip surgery, do you really want to make a large investment in this guy?
Seems like a perfect time to pitch the "come to Toronto, play 1 year for minimum under the spotlight, cash in next year" deal.
Yes, I'm chugging blue Kool-aid.

I like Kane, but I don't see the fit. One of the challenges I think is that he is defensively awful. You add him to other guys who struggle defensively like Nylander, Tavares, Domi and to a lesser extent Bertuzzi - and there's a real difficulty in putting together lines that offer responsibility and offense.
Tee-dot, above, suggests Kane & Domi together - and they scored, but they were also a nightmare defensively - I believe they were -4 when playing together at 5v5, but their expected goals ratio was -12.5. I realize the team around them wasn't particularly good, but they were a disaster.

Also was their top line.....Would be getting far less comp in this situation.
Much better team too.

I know the idea of adding Patrick Kane to your team is fun.
And yes, at league minimum, he'd definitely be worth every penny. So if he wants to join, of course you say yes.
This being said.
I don't think he's what the Leafs need. |

It makes sense, I just personally don't like Nylander being on the 3rd line all season. Same if they decide to put Tavares at 3C. |

They could absolutely use more scoring.
Healthy Kane is always worth it, I don't care what team you are every team in the league signing Kane would be good for their team.
Spinning it off like a team doesn't "need" Kane is dumb. |

Or, Kane doesn’t want to cash in next year when he’s coming off major surgery.
