Anyone remember the deadline for signing guys to be eligible to compete in the season?

IIRC, we signed Willy with 2 minutes to go before he became ineligible.

It's going to be weird with Kane.

Surgery June 2.

Estimated recovery time: 4-6 months

And he turns 35 on November 19th.

Coming off hip surgery, do you really want to make a large investment in this guy?

Seems like a perfect time to pitch the "come to Toronto, play 1 year for minimum under the spotlight, cash in next year" deal.

Yes, I'm chugging blue Kool-aid.

I like Kane, but I don't see the fit. One of the challenges I think is that he is defensively awful. You add him to other guys who struggle defensively like Nylander, Tavares, Domi and to a lesser extent Bertuzzi - and there's a real difficulty in putting together lines that offer responsibility and offense.

Tee-dot, above, suggests Kane & Domi together - and they scored, but they were also a nightmare defensively - I believe they were -4 when playing together at 5v5, but their expected goals ratio was -12.5. I realize the team around them wasn't particularly good, but they were a disaster.

The problem for me with a lot of the scenarios being pitched is that the checking line with Kampf becomes the only home for Reaves. I guess you could 'spot duty' Reaves and let the other wingers take some shifts with Kampf and whomever is on his left.

He reminds me of a half Yakupov, half Yashin, half Daigle type player

Yashin was great though...

Sheldon Keefe says William Nylander will start camp at centre tomorrow.
Obviously was drafted as a centre but hasn’t done too much during his time here in Toronto. Keefe wants to look at it now in a more meaningful way.

Reenforces my Pat Kane idea

They could absolutely use more scoring.

Healthy Kane is always worth it, I don't care what team you are every team in the league signing Kane would be good for their team.

Spinning it off like a team doesn't "need" Kane is dumb.

- Santo_44

Absolutely. Clutch pressure player who knows how to win and has. Asset to any team.

Great is a bit of a stretch. And when combined with Yakupov and Daigle the resulting entity sucks.

Every player in the world is. He hasn't played C since U16. Kessel/Kane/JVR blah blah blah are are C/bullpoop. They are wingers and were wingers, drafted AS wingers to be wingers. I (frank)ing HATE Toronto Media. (frank)ing dumb on purpose.

The NHL website had Kessel listed at centre for at least the first couple of years he was with Toronto.

The only thing about Kane that is arguably still elite is his hockey sense and passing. His peak days are well behind him. He's not a game-breaker any more. Any team would love to have him despite his age and history, but I don't think adding him turns any contender into a favorite. He's a nice complimentary piece if the price/term is right.

Having said that, I bet there will be no shortage of teams to make offers.

You seem to be hating this. He’s played up the middle in both the AHL and NHL during odd shifts and so long as Keefe isn’t expecting strong defensive C on that line and leans on the wingers it will work out just fine.

Matthews needs Marner more anyways, so he’s not setting up his winger his winger is setting up him.

What it boils down to is how he plays in the preseason, if Nylander plays well get used to seeing him at C, if not, he’ll be shifted back to wing.

I kinda feel the same way. I lurk on a small handful of twitter accounts to get fresh conflict updates (I'm a war wonk). Ditto for Telegram and Reddit. My only use for them is to get news I can't get elsewhere in a timely manner.

Armenia and Azerbaijan is heating up again. It would be nice if everybody could just keep their poop together and get along before everything snowballs into WWIII.

- GalacticStone

That seems like a never ending conflict. I watched the warographics channel on it lastnight, and it explains it well.

I guess Twitter (or X don’t sue me Elon) is fine. Nothing will ever be perfect. Although it has gotten more unbearable ever since he took over.

After a little while Keefe will be able to tell Treliving that he tried.
