Martin Jones Leafs mask is bad ass!
- Cush29
I may sound like a grumpy old man here, but I always prefer goalie masks that are about the team, rather than about the individual goalie.
So this one made me laugh out loud, because he's paying hommage to previous team goalies, some of whom had masks that were about themselves.
Anyhoo, cool mask. |

I remember when morons had Tarasenko listed as a "C" in Russia because he took 40 faceoffs in the MHL and played a game again Hungary in the U19's as a "C." Just don't fall for this trap. Literally look up ANY established wingers in their mid-20's who transition to centre. ANY. NAME THEM. (frank) you media bait bullpoop. |

Shouldn’t he be paying homage to previous Marlies’ goalies? |

You seem to be hating this. He’s played up the middle in both the AHL and NHL during odd shifts and so long as Keefe isn’t expecting strong defensive C on that line and leans on the wingers it will work out just fine.
Matthews needs Marner more anyways, so he’s not setting up his winger his winger is setting up him.
What it boils down to is how he plays in the preseason, if Nylander plays well get used to seeing him at C, if not, he’ll be shifted back to wing. - Dozzer
His goal scoring numbers are actually better without Marner. |

I’ll roll with what the GM and/or coach of the team want to do because they know more than all of us combined. |

Marner was his primary winger during the 60 goal seasons. Look at what’s on the ice, not what’s written in the books. |

This isn't a make believe number advanced stat thing. This is something tracked by him literally scoring goals.
Matthews' goal scoring is higher when Marner isn't on his wing.
Not to mention, the team also plays better when Nylander is on his wing. |

He's played C well before.
Consistency is the question.

Expected goals or actual goals...
Also we all know Matthews was playing injured last year and will skew stats compared to previous seasons. |

Actual goals. It's not by much, though. But still higher.
But the fact that it's close puts to rest Marner needing to be there. Especially when the Leafs as a whole are visibly better when Nylander is flanking Matthews. |

I am low class, I don't really care to deny it. Remember when GM Brian Burke said that JVR "played C" before and would be their "top choice as 1st line centre?" Brian was talking (frank)ing poop. JVR hadn't played centre since he was 15.
I don't trust any of those idiots or the NHL.com putting a C/D on their position. It's as easy as checking their junior stats. They keep them all. Faceoffs taken etc. It's easier than watching the games, and if you can't, then it's a better barometer than media bullpoop.
Name me one established WINGER to move to CENTRE in the past 15 years.

I remember when the Leafs drafted Marner and they said he'd go back to London and play C. That lasted all of 3 shifts and people still thought he could play C for the Leafs. |

Well I would bet last year Matthews would have skewed those stats to Nylander's favour.
before last year it was quite clear who was better with Matthews and that was Marner. |

Gets said quite a bit. Not word for word "to be elite", but it gets said on the regular that Matthews needs Marner there to pass him the puck.
Like he didn't score 40 his rookie season with (frank)ing Hyman and Brown on his wings. |

Before Matthews down year from his injury. |

More flashy =/= play better.
The team clearly and visibly plays better with Nylander on Matthews' wing and Marner on Tavares'. Debate with a wall. |

True. Babs did put Marner on the 4th line for a bit. |
