His goal scoring numbers are actually better without Marner. - GreatGigInTheSky
They are indeed. 34 scored 50 with either Marner or Willy. It just doesn’t matter. Could get an extra few with one vs other maybe but ultimately he pots with anyone. Proved that as a rookie with Johnsson and kappenen and brown and Hyman etc. he’s just a scorer. Give or take a few but team success does not depend on 34 with either of them. |

More flashy =/= play better.
The team clearly and visibly plays better with Nylander on Matthews' wing and Marner on Tavares'. Debate with a wall. - GreatGigInTheSky
Pretty ironic considering how this convo is going.
Have a good day. |

I am low class, I don't really care to deny it. Remember when GM Brian Burke said that JVR "played C" before and would be their "top choice as 1st line centre?" Brian was talking (frank)ing poop. JVR hadn't played centre since he was 15.
I don't trust any of those idiots or the NHL.com putting a C/D on their position. It's as easy as checking their junior stats. They keep them all. Faceoffs taken etc. It's easier than watching the games, and if you can't, then it's a better barometer than media bullpoop.
Name me one established WINGER to move to CENTRE in the past 15 years.
One. - AdamFrench
Giroux was drafted as a RW, played C for the majority of his career, and is now a LW because he’s 35.
As for Nylander he’s doing it during preseason. If you get upset about this you’re nothing but an overly sensitive judgemental man. |

I was curious, so I went to the Googles.
This is from a five-year-old Reddit thread, so I have no idea if it is true or not, but here are some answers:
Giroux was drafted as a RW.
Messier was drafted as a LW.
Henrik Zetterberg.
Sebastian Aho.
Joe Pavelski.
Kuznetsov.
Bryan Little (Atlanta needed him to play centre).
Eric Fehr (and there's a debate on the thread if this is true or not).
David Backes played centre for a bit.
Jonathan Druin when Stamkos was out.
Jamie Benn.

I'm not for or against Nylander at center but I just don't see how it makes the team better with him in that position. Does it mean Tavares to the wing or Nylander or Tavares to the third line? If one of them goes to the 3rd line it reduces their minutes and it waters down the right side. Not sure we're a better team that way but time will tell. |

Oh! Examples were given, better make your argument more detailed.
*shakes head*
Giroux, played both C and wings throughout his entire career. Can you seriously continue to argue his versatility? |

There's probably not many wingers who moved to centre because they didn't have to. |

Also this makes me wonder if the leafs will have a different game this year. If they require defensive skill at C Nylander is the wrong guy. However if they want the C to focus on offence while a the wingers focus a bit more on D I could see it work. |

Makes me think....with Matthews and Tavares at center do we have to make this move? |

Not really. But it's preseason, and this core has played together for a long time now. Good time to experiment, see what happens.

I just (frank)ing hope they do what O-Dog was saying with PP1. Will Nye and Matthews on each side, Marner in the middle, JT net front. Fire it up. |

Yea I'm down for trying it out and seeing how it goes. From my perspective I dont think it's what's best for the team but I've never coached a day in my life so I'm really not that qualified to make any definite assessments lol |

This. If it works, great, if not, flipping JT and Nylander back won’t be a difficult thing to do. |

That and its more proof that McDavid will be a leaf.
Whats the proof you ask?
The proof is the proof....is the proof.
Nuff said.

Sheldon Keefe says William Nylander will start camp at centre tomorrow.
Obviously was drafted as a centre but hasn’t done too much during his time here in Toronto. Keefe wants to look at it now in a more meaningful way.
