Oh they were there, just not the ones that were watching video and getting familiar with team tactics. - K-man25
Snippet of Miller talking about the new PP Tocchet is implementing:
“We just have to practice it. Watch video. It’s like anything. I used to be uncomfortable on the half-wall, and now that’s something I’m very comfortable with. I’ve got faith we’ll figure it out.”
Why punish the vets by forcing them be in Alberta for any non-league-mandated amount of time |

Excellent decision on Alvin’s part. Why subject the main team to a beating this early in the pre season, don’t want to ruin any confidence that they might have.

Who ices almost their entire NHL roster in game 1 of the preseason? Only a team who was a (frank)ing train wreck last year |

As much as I've missed hockey, I can't imagine a scenario where I have so little going on that I actually tune in to watch the first game of the preseason |

I'm not even saying people who watch it – if you wanna watch go for it, sports are great, maybe you got time to kill... but literally caring so much about it... |

Or, some fans like myself, wanted too see if the depth players were overhyped, again. |

I watched the first period, the refs made it a parade to the penalty box so I switched channels 😆 |

Exactly, I'll start watching when the games matter, hopefully the players will start caring as well. |

I'm gonna be at the game Thursday night in Seattle. I have to spend the night before I catch a train to San Francisco so I figured I'd go and check the rink out while I'm there. Tickets are cheap, so why not? |

It's not like any team in the league doesn't send an AHL roster to the away games, especially the first game. The main team hangs behind and goes through practices and videos... probably just as important to get those kinds of reps in while Tocchet is instilling things in them. - NewYorkNuck
Usually there are a few NHL calibre players sprinkled though. These teams used to read off each other as well and didn't let a mismatch of these proportions happen - I speak from experience being in Calgary last 2O+ years and attending plenty of pre-season games. It feels like it's been a bit of a stand-off between canucks & flames org lately (since before pandemic) where they just keep sending crappier lineups to each other's pre-season games to try and stiff each other. Really backfired this time. No one learns anything in a 10-0 beatdown out the gate.
It's also just a headline you want to avoid. 10-0. You get called a loser enough, you start to believe it. I can't imagine this was a stepping stone for Hogs & Podz to be NHL regulars. Go ahead and tell an athlete a game doesn't matter, they're not going to feel good about this. |

You need an attraction to sell a ticket, get people in the building sell some concession and merch. If the other team gonna send nobody, might as well showcase a couple of your stars looking to have a bounceback year along with your higher tier prospects. Worked like charm for Calgary. |

My random twitter algorithm has a lot of fan takes from all Canadian teams. The Mtl fans just short of talking Stanley cup. Crazy praise for Newhook and Anderson for scoring against some ECHL and junior defenders in their scrimmages.

The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline recently shared that the Columbus Blue Jackets may seek a waiver from the CHL-NHL Agreement for prospects Jordan Dumais and Denton Mateychuk. This waiver would allow for Columbus to send the prospects to the AHL, rather than their respective juniors leagues, if they don’t make the NHL roster. This comes in the wake of Shane Wright (OHL) receiving a waiver and Matthew Savoie (WHL) likely being rejected for one

I bet as well. Nothing like starting off with a 10 rip win ... point night.
I'm not saying it's the end of the world or anything, I just don't know why you'd open yourself up to this if you're trying to start the season on a fresh note. This just invites criticism and the 'same old canucks' narrative at home and around the league. Like it or not, 10-0 is a jarring result to see on a scoreboard and is noticed, pre-season or not. It's an ugly score in baseball, even football. Hockey it's a rare one. |

Saved me the 5 minutes of watching highlights though, so that's nice

Agreed, that rule needs to be changed. I get that it might hurt the CHL here and there, but it's unfair to lock players in a league that is so far below their skill level. |

Hard to tell. Was watching football. Glanced at the score on the app and saw 10-0 when a few buddies in fantasy football chat started in on the embarrassing canucks. I would imagine any of those depth guys quickly went into survival mode, which didn't work out either. |
