I like the fact that players who were fighting for jobs got a taste of how far back they are for NHL standards. It’s not the score so much but the performance. Those that kept showing up and fighting will be rewarded with more games with the vets.

Icing a team like they did on Sunday isn't the end of the world. They kept the rest of the team in Victoria. My guess is they were practicing more systems with the regulars like they were Saturday.

I really don't mind the decision by Tocchet. They've got to blast out of the starting gate. Systems and team structure are going to be a huge part of it. Having the regulars fly to Calgary and back for a meaningless game takes 2 days of important practice away from them.

Raty has been getting better game to game and is now noticeable. Hoglander and Hirose look close to NHL level and there was not much else to take away from that game.

Hoglander had 4 brutal giveaways, 1 which caused a goal, after some sustained pressure as a result, 1 which resulted in McWard having to take a penalty, which I believe was another goal against, 1 he feathered from his high-risk pass, the other he got bailed out by the defenseman.
Hirose was timid and scared all night.
Imo, neither are almost nhl ready.
Raty and to a lesser extent, Studnicka were the only 2 forwards who looked like they are capable of competing at an nhl level.

Although, as has been mentioned many times, this was the 1st pre-season game, nothing to be concerned about.

As mentioned earlier vets to practice longer together &/or just a 1 game off to give prospects an eye opener &/or it’s against the Flames & not wanting to show their hand. Idk
