Thanks NYNuck, just finished watching the game, I was very pleased to see a 50/50 mix of AHL/NHL Canucks held the Oilers regular NHL team to OT. As a Canucks fan I am happy that there may be depth to insert in case of injury to the bottom 6. If I was an Oiler fan there would be cause for concern.

From what I've read they seemed much more cohesive as a group. Also blanked the Edmonton PP, so that seems like a good first step to righting that ship. Hopefully Tocchet is making an impact on them and it carries over when the games matter.

Studnika AHL or bottom 6?

McWard NHL ready?

- Quinn's Quest

Studnicka is a great try hard guy but I think he lacks the skill and hockey IQ to be an NHL regular. IMO

I'd like to see McWard go down and play top pair minutes in Abbotsford.

ummmm....
I've been too lazy to search for a newer one but I use that On hockey since nhl66 went down. I like the on hockey though because it has the links to games around the world. Problem with it is that you have to get through usually 3 pop ups before you can get the feed. Which the feed is normally pretty good just don't exit otherwise you have to go through the 3 pop ups again.

Not sure what you consider hockey IQ, but from what I have seen in pre-season and have reD from training camp, he is doing a lot of the right things.
He is in hard on the forehead, is hustling back on defense, playing good angles, forcing opposition to the outside, is putting on puck pressure as well as doing a nice job in shutting down McDavid( at least on the 2 shift I seen last night)
Playing solid like that is what I call part of hockey IQ, although his offensive ability does appear limited, this has been a team with forwards who have notoriously been bad at those traits noted above.

Hustling is not a hockey IQ thing I'd say.

Michigan Hockey

Introducing this season's leadership group!

C - Jacob Truscott
A - Philippe Lapointe
A - Ethan Edwards
A - Dylan Duke
A - Marshall Warren

Another character player drafted by Jim Benning. Doesn't get a lot of love but has a quality to his game very near McWard.

Today is the first day of waiver activity for the 2023-24 NHL season. One of the names expected to be on there -- if there isn't a deal first -- is VCR's Spencer Martin. There have been some trade discussions over the past week.

Joni Jurmo back at 2LD
Lucas Forsell at 4RW
Jonathan Lekkerimäki at 2RW
Elias Pettersson (D-Petey) at 7D

Watching Philip Holm play 17 minutes a night instead of D-Petey is just a terrible mistake by Obero.

Lekkerimaki getting top 6 minutes is what matters out of that group.

D-Petey needs to play and he is scoring at 1.75 PPG in the junior leagues. I'd suspect in Jan he is loaned to an Allsvenskan team if he isn't playing.

I had Oilers pegged as a top five team. What happened last night? Did not watch the game. I did see our line up and it was not impressive, so I thought we were in for another ass kicking.

One team was littered with 10%, NHL 90% AHL players. The other was a 70 NHL, 30 AHL line up.

I wonder how some feel about Silovs taking over the back up job this year from that game against Calgary.

I have seen Silovs play a number of NHL games and he looked fine with a NHL lineup.

I have also seen a number of Canucks preseason years and this one seems familiar.

He looked great for Latvia too. Canucks went out pretty early and got DeSmith. I'd say that says something about how they feel where Silovs was at.

Just that the Oilers had their best team out there and the canucks 3rd/4th line AHL players kept them in check. Even to the point where Draisaitl was cheap shotting and McDavid was trying his hardest to be a tough guy.

I agree with you about the Oilers being a top 5 team and there is all this talk of cup or bust but overall as Mini stated it is only preseason.

Also Reubys post on Studnicka was IMO spot on.

I don't know if I would put the Oilers in the top 5. I'd go more 6-10. Canucks closer to 13-18th position.
