Thanks NYNuck, just finished watching the game, I was very pleased to see a 50/50 mix of AHL/NHL Canucks held the Oilers regular NHL team to OT. As a Canucks fan I am happy that there may be depth to insert in case of injury to the bottom 6. If I was an Oiler fan there would be cause for concern. - Makita
From what I've read they seemed much more cohesive as a group. Also blanked the Edmonton PP, so that seems like a good first step to righting that ship. Hopefully Tocchet is making an impact on them and it carries over when the games matter.
Thanks to Minivan and NYN for your links. From a guy too lazy to search the net, much appreciated! - bloatedmosquito
ummmm....
I've been too lazy to search for a newer one but I use that On hockey since nhl66 went down. I like the on hockey though because it has the links to games around the world. Problem with it is that you have to get through usually 3 pop ups before you can get the feed. Which the feed is normally pretty good just don't exit otherwise you have to go through the 3 pop ups again.
Studnicka is a great try hard guy but I think he lacks the skill and hockey IQ to be an NHL regular. IMO
I'd like to see McWard go down and play top pair minutes in Abbotsford. - manvanfan
Not sure what you consider hockey IQ, but from what I have seen in pre-season and have reD from training camp, he is doing a lot of the right things.
He is in hard on the forehead, is hustling back on defense, playing good angles, forcing opposition to the outside, is putting on puck pressure as well as doing a nice job in shutting down McDavid( at least on the 2 shift I seen last night)
Playing solid like that is what I call part of hockey IQ, although his offensive ability does appear limited, this has been a team with forwards who have notoriously been bad at those traits noted above.

Today is the first day of waiver activity for the 2023-24 NHL season. One of the names expected to be on there -- if there isn't a deal first -- is VCR's Spencer Martin. There have been some trade discussions over the past week.

I had Oilers pegged as a top five team. What happened last night? Did not watch the game. I did see our line up and it was not impressive, so I thought we were in for another ass kicking.

Just that the Oilers had their best team out there and the canucks 3rd/4th line AHL players kept them in check. Even to the point where Draisaitl was cheap shotting and McDavid was trying his hardest to be a tough guy.
I agree with you about the Oilers being a top 5 team and there is all this talk of cup or bust but overall as Mini stated it is only preseason.

Also Reubys post on Studnicka was IMO spot on. - Makita
I don't know if I would put the Oilers in the top 5. I'd go more 6-10. Canucks closer to 13-18th position.
