For those all wrapped up in their 'it's only pre-season' and 'it's not even an nhl lineup', my thoughts after watching my first period of this pre-season ...

The good:
- BB, JTM and pizzaboy seem to have carried over some chemistry
- We haven't got scored on *edit nevermind

The bad:
- We can't carry the play for much of a stretch against backups, let alone score
- Myers looks like he may never score again, he's resorted to what I can only call a half wrist-shot when he gets a chance

- Sayros

So thoughts on ending 5-2?

Here’s something to chew on.
-Canucks can do better.
-Canucks will rely on PP to score.
-Canucks not tough enough to dish it out.
-Canucks PK can stop a non star PP.
-Canucks need more games to gel into a system that won’t give a lot chances to score and constant vigilance on defense.

Looks like the Canucks got roughed up by the Oilers last night.

Who would have thought?

Soucy was the only D to register a hit last night.

Team needs Joshua in the line up.

I still wish the Canucks would have brought back Lane Pederson. Get rid of Dries.

Teams will continue to rough them up if there's no pushback.

Not sure McWard is ready for the NHL.
Still haven't seen anyone else play with Hughes. Juulsen should get a shot in the next game or two. He played with Matt Irwin in the game vs Calgary.

I'd like to see McWard go play top minutes in all situations in the AHL and be a call up.

No Schenn, No Burroughs. Granted Edmonton fielded a few minor league fighters last night. Pettersson leading the Canucks forwards in hits.

University of Michigan hockey has given Johnny Druskinis the boot after he was caught on camera spray painting swastikas onto the Jewish Resource Center during welcome week.

Derek Neumeier@Derek_N_NHL
I started looking up Druskinis after seeing this news, and saw something that made my jaw drop: he was teammates with Mitchell Miller during the 2021-22 USHL season

What a take by Derek Neumeier. Cole McWard was also a teammate of them, Gavin Brindley and Matthew Knies and there hasn't been any stories about any of them out there.

Probably because they weren't spray painting swastikas on things.

Yeah McWard not ready. But he can get there. I know RT wants another RHD to play with QH but Juluson seems a long shot. Getting a RHD from scrap pile or trading for one unlikely.

My guess is it’s going to be Soucy with QH and Wolanin with Myers.

Juulsen is hot garbage. Playing with Irwin exposed his weaknesses. He panics with the puck when pressure and speed become a factor. Not sure why you would want your #1 D man constantly having to cover up his warts. There has to be be better options such as Hronek, if he wasn’t the answer then why did they pay so much to get him. You want your top D used to their fullest potential not saddled with an anchor for a partner.Myers would be a better option but we know that’s not much of an improvement.

Because Hughes can carry someone, and then that leaves Hronek to anchor a great second pairing. Not putting all the apples in one basket so to say.

Quite a few seem to think that Brisebois is a better fit and out played Wolanin.

Soucy I don't know if he is all that comfortable on that right side.

Hughes - Juulsen was one of Hughes better pairs last season.

Ya nice to see them score some goals for sure. Pettersson looked great, some snarl in there as well. Hopefully don't have to rely on him for some physicality as don't want him getting hurt. Agree with others Joshua probably gifted a spot whether he earned it or not so he can push back a little at least ... plus the contract.

Since it's pre-season, I'd like to see them work on a PP that isn't revolved entirely around Miller circling up high and shooting or dropping to Hughes. It does work for a while, but teams wise up and then we go on big droughts.

Can't disagree with any of your points.

Need Hughes to be able to free wheel in the reg. season like he was last night. He's about 75% of the creativity I see out there. #bringbacktanev

Was an entertaining game last night. Hughes is going to be a Norris nominee this year, Pettersson will match last year’s production maybe push 120pts and Boeser will be pushing 70pts.

Wasn’t that after the Shenn trade that Juulsen played okay. Now not so good. Anyway we shall see.

Soucy has played okay on the right but of course is better on the left side.

Brisbois is a possibility we shall see. Though I don’t think he goes well with Myers.

Canucks need to go outside the organization and get a RHD and some grit. I think Mikheyev will solve the Hoglander PDG Podkolzin decision.

Yup work on the PP run by committee is key now to a good start.
