It was f'n awesome. I hosted a house party for it that started 11am with 60+ people. The game started at around 4pm our time ....it was a wild f'n time that went right into the next day hahah

The 2014 Canada vs Sweden gold game came on like 8:30am here...a buddy of mine hosted a potluck boozy brunch party for that one hahah

I look at it this way.. if Sid winning gold means it would have elevated his play into the Stanley Cup playoffs, I was rooting for Sid because I'm a bigger Penguins fan then I am USA fan.

Yeah I’m far from a patriot in the American sense. I love my home and think it’s the best place in the world but the jingoistic statism that American patriotism is is just nationalistic bullpoop, but when it comes to rooting for America in silly sports on the national stage? Yeah for me there’s like 2 states in the entire US that care about hockey until you put a flag behind it. Canada cares about hockey, that’s why they are the best at it.

Isn't that just the division-based All Star game setup but 5-v-5 not 3-v-3? Nobody cared about the All Star game which is why they do all the gimmicks.

My point being the reason the All Star game sucks is because the players don't care about it so are mostly just trying to avoid injury. The players do care about representing their countries, which is why the best-on-best tournaments are so good. If you just go and make a tournament mid-season with NHL players but representing their division or some random NHL super-squads the players aren't going to care and it's going to suck.
