Last paragraph before the lines is telling. - Buff36
Fairly certain Benson is going back to Juniors.
Dislike Cozens being saddled with Olofsson.
I'm also uncertain how Casey will do in a lengthy venture at Center.
Projecting a bit, based on logic and the obvious rumor, it could look like this by the time the new year comes around.
Skinner - Tage - Tuch
Peterka - Cozens - P. Kane
Greenway - Casey - Quinn
Girgensons - Krebs - Okposo
>>> 53 Jeff Skinner – 72 Tage Thompson – 9 Zach Benson
12 Jordan Greenway – 37 Casey Mittelstadt – 89 Alex Tuch
77 JJ Peterka – 24 Dylan Cozens – 71 Victor Olofsson
28 Zemgus Girgensons – 19 Peyton Krebs – 21 Kyle Okposo
15 Brandon Biro – 17 Tyson Jost – 13 Lukas Rousek |

Pretty much agree, basically this lineup was set by July 10th with little wiggle room. |

With Benson, Savoie, Kulich, Rosen and Ostlund all in the system and the likelihood that at least one is ready for the NHL next season, how can they sign Patrick Kane to anything beyond a one year deal?
Tuch and Quinn are long term solutions at RW.
Tage, Cozens, Skinner, and Peterka are all top 9 locks.
Greenway and Casey make 8 of the top 9, and then one of the 5 I mentioned above would get the 9th top 9 spot.
Are they extending Casey or trading him after this season?
Would they actually put Greenway on the 4th line? Doesn't seem like a pound the table Donnie move to do that.
Not going to be able to make room for everyone as early as next season (safe assumption they wuss out with any big decisions at forward this coming season).
Kane doesn't make sense to me on anything other than a 1 year deal. |

Depending on when he's ready, he really doesn't make sense at all. Quinn needs to play when he gets back and I would really be surprised if they left 4.75mill sitting in the stands for 3 months. I said last year they needed to start making decisions. I watch a lot of the different lower leagues. You could see some of these kids were really improving and might just make a push this year. It was a shame he locked down his roster before the summer really started. Adams didn't need someone to get the offseason started, he had the ammo to start it himself. |

They did sit Olofsson down the stretch last season, so I could see it again.
Kane at least makes some sense for this season as a VO replacement.
Beyond that, he doesn't.
If they have a single need at forward, it's another Tuch clone.
They already have the market cornered on moderately sized, offensive forwards. |

Sure, but 3 months is a bit different than 2 weeks. Guess Kane would for half a year, I personally would have liked something different if they weren't gonna let a youngin grow there. |

Because Adams over values the prospect pipeline and current core.
Kane on a 3 year deal, makes more sense then what Adams did this off season.
Is the thought process really, let’s promote 5 rookies and also believe the team will be a playoff contender?
The roster as it’s currently built is flawed, adding rookies with similar play style as the current group doesn’t increase the likelihood of winning. |

It won’t be the prospect’s or the top 6 that will be Adams downfall, but his yearly piss poor attempts to round out the team |

No, it will be the bottom 6 and how they build that with the plethora of prospects coming up. The next 2 years will be huge for evaluation on which prospects fit what you need. The Sabres are a young team, they have so much quantity that they will never fit everyone. It's a good problem and a bad problem. For whatever people on here want to say, prospects lose value after a bit. Right know it's all about value for the Sabres over the next few years. They have to figure out who fits and who doesn't and the ones that don't need to be used for assets that can help replenish the pool 4 or 5 years down the road. Try and keep that window open as long as you can. |

We’re saying the same thing here.
The bottom 6 = rounding out the team.

They only have space for one rookie next year unless they ship out Mittelstadt and/or demote Greenway to the 4th line. |

So KA is in hot pursuit of Kane. What sense does this make? First he signs Okposo because the kids need him to lead. Now he's going to sign Kane to take the place of one of Okposo's kids.
Second he signs a young goalie to lead the team and has another young goalie as a backup. Brings in another goalie to be sure if the goalie he has all the faith in fukks up.
I'm not going to be surprised when the fourth goalie shows up with Kane and Stamkos. |

Overall, how does Kane make sense on a 3 year deal?
I'm all for adding to the forward group, and not just relying on the prospects. |

If they limit themselves to only those moves then yes. With the prospects in the system, is Skinner safe? Anyone else? Should always be looking to improve. |

To simplify it, he would be a much more effective leader for a team with a prospect pool like the Sabres vs what was resigned. |

If they want Kane, I don't like it but he could move the needle. I just don't want to see another Hall debacle. For as much as we all want the Sabres to take that next step. It could be just as easy for the Sabres to take a step back if Levi falters. |

I’ve seen a lot of “we scored a lot of goals last year, we don’t need player X” kind of opinions of late.
I don’t think I’ll ever be of the mind that we score enough. If there is a player available that can help fill the net, I’m probably going to want him.

In that same X post the following were replies, which is where I stand...
But some guys who fill the net are net negative because they give it all back defensively (Victor Olofson/current Pate Kane). Those guys can excel on defensivly structured teams, but we arent that
It’s not a scoring is too much thing, it’s a scoring at the expense of defense thing. There were plenty of guys that can help them score that wasn’t at the expense of defense available, my favorite being Tatar |

So the solution is signing a 35 year old Patty Kane to a three year deal fresh off surgery while his play has been pretty bad since 2019/2020 ? |
