Makes you wonder if they are giving him a real shot? Trade joker. - IndianaSabresFan
They're not. They're just seeing more from him before he is sent to the AHL.
Teams generally play the players who they feel are going to be on the NHL roster less, not more in the preseason. |

Johnson playing a lot - Buff36
All part of the plan of having as much tape on him as possible in the preseason before the inevitable demotion to the AHL.

A lot, how is Quinn comparable to Kane?
The risk is low and it’s more palatable if they didn’t resign and overpay the larry’s. - washedup20
I agree about the Larry's.
Yet, the other questions are valid. Is Quinn or Kane playing 3rd line when healthy?
What is the cost?
Is he 80 pt Patrick or 54 pt Kane?
Is he -22 Patty or 0 Kane?
For 3 years, way too many questions

“Murray’s physicality has stood out whenever he’s on the ice. That could make him a useful player in spot duty considering the Sabres don’t have a ton of that playing style in their forward group.”
It’s happening, people are noticing, the beast is ready.

Adding Kane allows the flexibility of 2nd or 3rd line, isn’t the goal of Adams build out to roll 4 skilled lines?
80 point Kane on the Sabres, he is adding gasoline to a bonfire that is the Sabres offense.
You like to use the stats during Chicago’s tank years for Kane, are you comparing this seasons Sabres to that roster? |

Kane is a good example of perceived value dropping due to an organization that is in disarray and tanking.
Like most Sabres that left Buffalo the past decade with the thought they are shot, only to immediately become integral players on winning teams the next season. |

So the fact that he's turning 35 soon and coming off a serious injury aren't part of the puzzle, and no cause for concern?
Disarray and tanking are impacting his age and the injury?
Interesting theory. |

preseason is a tune up for roster locks. everyone else, especially the group between locks and the 1st roster trim is there for extended auditions.
you'll notice all the 2 way, non-ELC players are still here, as well as the prospects and fringe players. They're playing a lot. Bryson and Stillman getting a ton of minutes means they're fighting, as well as RJohnson.
Guys like Dahlin, Sam, Power, Clifton, EJohnson... no real need to get them out there before another cut down.

i mean we're out here talking about bad decisions and roster risks, simultaneously boosting a guy who's had a rough go of it for the past few years and is aging out, so im not really sure i understand why we'd be supporting this move.

he carries this play to the end of the preseason, he's fighting for an actual spot. like we talked about yesterday, it's unlikely because of his exemption, but, and ive made this prediction already, he forces his way here like Samuelsson did by the end of the year.

Which one of the following would he be consistently playing over?
Dahlin, Power, Clifton, E. Johnson, Samuelsson, Jokiharju
The answer is none, which is why he is Rochester bound. |

92 points in 2021 is a rough go, good to know. |

I'm posing that 8 dmen stay and there's a rotation of Johnson & Johnson... and Joker.

This season I would expect a ppg when he comes back from injury. I would expect that throughout the duration of the contract, while also helping the young core learn how to handle the pressure and close out games.
I would’ve paid him for 3 years at ~ $5mm per with those expectations vs resigning Okposo/Girgs or bringing in E Johnson.

Defensively? Absolutely...and he does nothing to help..in fact he has been a net negative player...I mean, I guess one could consider him a suitable replacement to Olofsons -21.
He was a great player...the question is, how much does a significant injury hamper him?
We simply do not know.
Past performance is great for HOF votes, has little to do with future play after major surgery.
He could turn out to be better or worse.
