No, they mean the Eagles dominated the line of scrimmage and ran the ball down the throats of the 4th ranked run defense in the league to ice the game. - MJL You must be looking at different (incorrect) stats than me cause it looks to me as if their run defense is ranked 12th. Thanks again! |

There is an old saying that you are probably unaware of. It states that you can lose chips in September, but you can't win them in September. Thanks! - Phillywhiteout
Not that you have to stop using it or anything, but the term "chips" is silly. You don't even get a "chip" when you win and the word is championship not championchip.
Again, you do not need to stop using it. I just needed to say it. I guess I am the old man.

It's pretty clear what you're unaware of.
Answer the question. What would 3 losses against the first 3 teams they played mean to their chances of winning the division and home field advantage? - MJL Read the above comment. It's pretty simply stated.

Christ it was 4-0 before I remembered they were playing and checked the score on Twitter. I think as the year goes on they will get better. To me success is making sure a bunch of the younger guys get some time on the big club with a few of them flourishing. At least we know why LA wanted to get rid of Petersen. Yikes. - landros 2

So the stats only matter when they fit your narrative and work for you? Facts only matter when they work for you?

Flyers will likely waive him and take some cap relief when he isn’t claimed based on how last night went. |

I only watched the first 3 or 4 minutes. He wasn't good but he had absolutely no help.

I thought last night was an example of Torts criticisms of York and Frost were valid. Not bad players but these guys aren’t going to take over a game. I mean last season Provorov was a jerk for not allowing York to play left side on the top pair. |

Right, right…. I know Petersen was a cap dump to improve their trade return. With Ersson and Sandstrom as younger and cheaper alternatives, I don’t really know where he fits. They could very well just bury him in the AHL the next two seasons. How much does waiving him save off their cap? |

I want Hart and Sandstrom at the NHL level. Ersson and Peterson can share the AHL net.
Sandstrom needs to prove it and Peterson getting sent down helps the Flyers cap a little. Also, Hart will get at least 55 starts if healthy. No need to sit Ersson for 27 of 82 games.

3.85M. They would carry 1.15M of dead cap space.

Wouldn't they save $1.25M by sending him down? $3.75M in dead space?

It's the opposite. 3.85M of dead cap space. They save 1.15M.

They play every "worthy" team at some point this season. Most of those teams in a six week stretch. The thing with the Eagles is they have dominated offensively the last two games. It's just not pass the ball all over the field dominant. Eagles are a top three team in the NFL. Anybody who argues that is flat out dumb. - mickel25
Well, some national rankings have them 4th (after Dolphins, Chiefs, Niners). But that is being pedantic.
I see two major issues with this team. One is the pedestrian decision making of Hurts. He is taking the 4th longest to throw the ball (after some dregs like Fields, Wilson etc). The INT he threw when targeting Swift: he should have seen the LB break for the ball. The INT against dbl covered Smith was not a bad decision, but the pass was underthrown. Having said that, there was definite improvement from the first 2 weeks.
The other is the coverage down the middle of the field. Right now, the Eagles interior defenders are flat out dominant, with off the charts play from Carter and very good from Davis and Cox. But they have played some injury decimated guard positions. Further, a long line of fanning out the Eagles defensive line that started with the wide 9 of Washburn, continuing with the wide 9 of Schwartz, and then the sort of 'okie front' of Gannon (with a 3 man front, + Sweat in 5, and Reddic way out in 9 position) has now gone back to a more traditional 4 man front, and one of the reasons for the Reddic low production is he is not taking those wide angle runs to the QB anymore - he is much more to the inside. Gaps now are much smaller and both Cunningham and Morrow are able to bridge them well. Run defense is way, way improved from last year.
But sooner or later, teams will be able to stop that interior pressure and start going to the flat quickly. Teams with strong TE gains esp. Morrow/Cunningham are terrible in coverage. Overall, Eagles are vulnerable against the pass. I hope some of that is due to the young secondary.
All in all, I am impressed with Desai so far. I do see improvement. And oh, Jalen Carter (knock on wood) is playing at a Warren Sapp level and style, no hyperbole).
It will be interesting to see how the OL holds up against Wash D line.
GO BIRDS! |
