Almost 40 points playing center for the first time in his career on a bad offensive team. I think Cates has offensive upside and it would not surprise me to see Cates get up to 60 points with the minutes and playing with other good offensive players. I think Cates has Frost beat in terms of defensive play, puck battles, etc. but to get the 2C job he is going to have to score more. - jd250
He played minutes and had good linemates, 60 points is not even close to being in his grasp |

it is clear to me the coach isnt a Frost fan. Hell they allegedly tried to trade him to after he signed his deal.
Whether he can push the right button we shall see. Will he get the same leash as Cates? - hello it's me 2050
I only saw EK report the possible trade, did anybody else report it?
They also tried to trade Laughton and Sanheim. I guess they do not like them. The Flyers also traded Rex, did they not like him?
Teams look for ways to make their teams better, when they look to trade someone it does not mean they do not like the player.

Flyers trading away Frost would be a typical Flyers move. They need more players like Frost. Not less. |

we don't need him to score 60 though. he was a plus player matching up against the other clubs top lines. Coots can take some of that off his shoulders. if he is getting 40-50 points a year that is fine imo.

no they didn't try to trade Laughton.
Yes I do not believe the coach likes Sanheim all that much. Why they tried to move him along with the others he didn't like. see a pattern?
Who is Rex?

I totally agree. Third line center that can take on tough matchups throughout a game and contribute offensively with some consistency. |

Hopefully, Tortorella will be able to snag another Matt Ellison when he trades Frost. |

Where did I express hate for Cates?
Only pointing out the stark contrast in the way Torts talks about one versus the other. - Tomahawk
seemed like a jab at Cates |

Cates and Frost are two different players. Their is room for both. Why does it need to be Cates v. Frost? Play Cates in defensive situations and play Frost in offensive situations a majority of the time. Utilize what each player is good at.
Seems like a silly argument. 2C or 3C who cares about the label? - mickel25
it is a long season, the ups and downs, Frost will go on a run, Coots will and Cates, they will also struggle, Torts knows this. Torts wants competition at each position, he is pushing buttons to make sure no one is comfortable. I think he feels Frost needs the extra kick in the AXX, while Cates does not. It is a little weird and old school but only an issue on the HB board. |

Torts probably doesn’t like Frost. Maybe he doesn’t like York either. The fact of the matter is, if you can move Hayes and DeAngelo, you can move Frost. I think the coach wants more from Frost and so do I. |

Cates played with good linemates.

Laughton was suppose to be in the blues trades that would have sent laughton, sanheim and hayes to the blues.
Rex = Recchi

I remember that, it was near the draft. But I’m not sure if anything was confirmed. Heard it was a first and second round pick. Which if offered we prob should’ve taken it.
Maybe we were banking on that Hayes return..,, |

What's wrong with that? Torts doesn't like Frost and thinks Cates is better. I agree with him. Frost is going to have to beat out Cates for the 2C role on the team. The only concern I have is a potential conflict between Briere, who I believe likes Frost and Torts, who clearly does not. - jd250
The good news is a team needs more than 2 centers.

It was his first time playing center but Cates was a reason why the team was not good offensively.
