Letang and Karsson are also very mobile on the power play so the chances they finish in the same spot they start is pretty low.

Yeah if you watch clips of EK on the PP he weaves in and out, from the boards to the point, to the high slot all the time.

Who gives a poop about the 2nd unit lol they see 24 seconds of ice time per PP.

2 righties aren't "on the blue line" in the umbrella formation. One of them is going to be on the half wall where either Rust/Rakell was at and that player should be a righty anyways. My choice would be Letang. Karlsson as the QB up top.

- j.boyd919

I agree with that.

Two right handies that love to be the puck carrier....not sure its all roses, man. Also, they're all another year older and I don think keeping them out there for almost a full 2 mins every PP is a great idea, especially later in the season.

I'm kind of hoping Poulin or Zohorna win the 4th center spot to start the season. Slide Acciari to the wing with DOC and Eller. I just want to see something different to start the season with Jake out.

I'd love to see him get a few games in an offensive role, despite all of this. He has to be able to at least prove he has NHL offense before I worry about anything else.
- burgh4life87

That's all I've ever asked for. Just give a couple of these kids a look. It was well established what they were getting out of their other depth players, why not see if you have something better in one of your "prospects". If they bomb....what have you lost? That team had no chance of winning last year. None. At least get a feel for what you have in your system.

False.

I mean, if you havent played on a hard working PP in life thats okay, but are you even watching the Pens games? Have you not seen what the 1st PP unit looks like after 90 straight seconds? have you not seen how much they slow down before they leave the ice? Seen the boneheaded plays and decisions that result from being gassed? hunched over on the bench when they sit there?

No one gets tired on the PP hahaha get the F outta here with that.

“The power play is very important to Erik and Kris. So we’ll start with both of them on the top unit. And so we'll see how it goes. We've got a lot of options."

- Sullivan

Not a shocking revelation by any means but I can't help but wonder if its really for the best or if its catering to two vets. Going to have two righties on the blue line this way. So which forward comes off the top PP? Jake is obviously not going to be there to start the season but if they were al healthy?

Jake-Sid-Geno
EK-Tanger

2nd unit?

Rak-Carter-Rust
Graves-Petts/Smith?...if its Graves/Petts its two lefties....

I thought Smith was QB'n the PP pretty good the other day. When he was up for those 9 games last season, even though the PP didnt produce much, he didnt look out of place on it at all to my eyes.

- MattStrat

The only problem is going to be 76 passes to one shot.

This puts the five best offensive players on the top unit. Who cares about the second unit. At best those guys will see 45 seconds per PP and be a fraction of the overall PP goals.

More interested to see how much the PK improves with the shuffling of the forward group.

Yeah because teams that don't shoot on the Power Play are usually 6th in the NHL in shots on the Power Play.

From Haase...

Sullivan on Puustinen: "Defensively, we have to have a certain trust that we can put players over the boards in certain situations and know that they're going to be able to get the job done," Sullivan explained. "I think Puusty has work to do there. And I think he's gotten better and grown in that regard. I think he can continue to work and get better in that capacity."

Pretty much thought that's why he never got a call up last year.

Probably a good sign for Nylander that in a game where most of the regulars are sitting and the fringe guys are playing he has the night off.

Also is the server getting even worse lately?

Could be. I'm hoping for a good turnout Thursday. Got tickets from a golf outing so I'd like to see a few starters play.
