This is something the NHL is actively trying to fix. They want the younger generation to get into the sport
- Santo_44

A couple of years ago, I donated a pair of Leafs tickets so that my daughter could sell raffle tickets at her high school (midtown Toronto) for the Girls' Athletic Association.

Every single kid (male and female) asked her if she had Raptors tickets.

Apparently Major League Baseball is the worst - the average fan is over 60 years old (I'm guessing CFL would be even worse).

But the NHL is probably not that far behind.

Edit: this is from a 2021 article:

MLB has the oldest fans among the major sports, with an average age of 57, according to a 2017 survey by Sports Business Journal. The average NBA, NHL, and NFL fans are 42, 49, and 50, respectively.

The trap beats the players select during the warmup skate are like nails on a chalkboard to me. Whatever happened to big beat breaks in popular hip-hop?

MLB got that memo, and the changes they have made to the rules over the last few seasons has helped. just speeding up the games was huge.

last I saw view ship was up and I believe more interest from younger fans.

There are 9 people under 30 at every Leafs game.

They need to appeal to Generation X.

It's our time!

Curtis McElhinney has been around watching #Leafs practice and wearing a team jacket. Not clear what this is about.

However, the team did lose Jon Elkin to the Penguins. So there is that…

An old (2017) article showed the Blue Jays with a younger fanbase. 21% of “fully engaged” fans were 19-29 and 43% were 29-44. I think the recent renovations were designed to make going to a game more of a social event. Certainly shots of the crowds at Jays games seem to show a younger crowd than you see elsewhere.

I’m 2 hours from Toronto, so the only time I’m buying leaf tickets is to have a weekend out with the boys and make a mini weekend out of it.

not in my company mother(frank)ers

Most of the Gen X folks quit a while ago when they didn't get it. There's like nobody in the company between the ages of 60 and 40.

Ive got three teenaged kids. Generally none of them or their friends watch hockey once they stop playing except my oldest who still tracks the Leafs. If they never did play, they've never really ever watched hockey at all. And absolutely, they do obssess over the NBA.

It would cost me 1500 plus dollars to take my family to a Leafs game. They've priced me out.

That's a brave statement that may result in those from the millennial generation having hurt feelings from the retaliatory responses they may receive from Gen X'ers.

Then again I suppose those hurt feelings could be overcome by looking at all the participation trophies in a safe space while thinking how great it is to never lose at anything.

I had to read that a couple times to get what you’re saying

But I got it!

When I was in high school in North Bay, I lived directly across the street from Butch Turcotte, Darrens dad. He always made a small ODR in his backyard every winter.

The guy fk’n hated me lol. Probably because I never mowed the lawn and it was full of dandelions and they started popping up on his lawn.

RIP Butch, you old coot!

The father in law told us that when he bought his house it was 10 percent interest rate.

The wife shut him up pretty quick but it was a funny little convo. I stayed the hell out of it.
