I really don't know but do we need a 10 million dollars goalie if we have a team that can actually score goals and has a good D core?
Offense is the best defense. - Garfield512
the Edmonton Oilers would disagree.

In the '70s, we won a poop ton of cups with Ken Dryden in goal.
I'm not saying Dryden was bad but his career record would have been a lot different if he had played on another team. I never considered him to be elite. |

but because of all those wins Dryden would be making a poop ton of money in today's NHL.

Yeah we did ...
The point is we had an explosive offense and the Big 3 on defense ... any goalie could have done the job back there.
I agree, we are nowhere close to being there yet. |

I wasn't born in the 70s, so I only watched a few of those vintage games, but I have a hard time believing a goalie could win that much without being elite. you almost make it sound like they won despite Dryden lol |

It's not what I meant at all ... Dryden was good/competent but not elite, all he had to do is make the first save and the Big 3 took care of the rest.
Also, other teams were scared of our offense so they often needed to backcheck hard so they rarely sustained prolongued attacks in our zone for long. |

they for sure don't win in 71 without him. he pretty much singlehandedly beat the bruins.
and i refuse to recognize the final. |

ok fair enough, it just isn't a take I've heard very often. from the few footage I've seen he seemed pretty clutch and came out big when needed, which I consider as being elite, especially with all those playoff games he was in.

He was elite! Harder to play when you have a great d. Had to be mentally prepared without much work and he always came
up with the big save when he had to. The year he went on sabbatical the Flyers won the Cup. |

... that Lemaire goal was a beauty wasn't it?
But seriously, Tony O was a better goalie than Dryden. |
